I have about 7 black walnut logs. 4 pretty much big ones and 3 smaller ones that I need to sell or have milled. Too good to just waste. Any ideas in NW AL?

On our trip last week, the KOA we were staying at delivered firewood to us and it was all walnut. I almost had a come apart. If you were closer I could tell ya where to go to have it milled. Hope you find someone.

One is about 26 inches in diameter 10-12 ft long. One is about 16-18 in x 16 ft. One is about 16-18 inches x 12 ft. With some knots . Other 3 are smaller. Maybe 8 inches x 6-8 ft. I’m guessing and I may be off on the measurements . I have a picture if I can figure out how to post

Imagine how I felt when I went down to my Mom’s and “those nice boys from the fire department “ were sawing up and burning the big black walnut tree in her yard.

I sawed some walnut few years back . That stuff really hard work with it’s so dense . It be dark no matter how you stain it but it’s some durable wood. Have drill pilot holes to use it .

It takes many years of drying to get them ready for gun stocks.

Claro Walnut > Black Walnut for rifle stocks and most high-end stocks come from the taproot not the actual trunk

If you want to fugg up the wood.

Kiln drying does NOT work for gun stocks. Some custom Stockmakers will not use slabs unless they have been dried in a controlled environment less than 10 years.

Yes. The root is where you get beautiful grain and figure.

The reason this one was cut is it was hollow from about 2 ft below the ground to about 4 ft above the ground and was going to end up on my front porch. I guess the taproot is not available.
