My wife and I have seperate laptops. I use mine for visiting aldder, and surfing the net, and to store pictures on. My wife has a good one. Mine is on it's absolute last leg. I've got the screen patched together and the stupid thing is now locking up. It barely starts up. The one I have is a Compaq Presario CQ62. It's been a POS since about 6 months after I bought it.
So, I'm in the market for a new one. I don't want to spend that much, $350 or less, as I don't need all the bells and whistles. I just need enough memory to store pictures and videos. What say ye computer guru's?

Thanks for the info. That's one of the small ones. They have several on sale on that site so I will look at some of the others. I forgot to say in my original post that I would like a 15" size or larger. Probably can't get a 17" for the price I want to spend.

I am not sure if the price is within your range but I have been using Toshiba Satellite's for a few years and bought both of my collage kids the same. These have been very reliable laptops

What say ye computer guru's? I'm on an old Compaq presario CQ60 now. It was one of the rebate specials from Staples. Mine has been a good one so far, for what it is, a cheap laptop. Staples has almost always got a deal on a laptop with a rebate if you dont mind sending in the papers.

Tigerdirect and newegg both have great deals. Just narrow your fields down to what you want. I am a Mac snob so i cant much help. I will say that my wife gets toshibas from her work each year and they are great. 350 would get you a nice open box. Just remember what comes with buying a new laptop. Anti-virus, office, adobe, and all that jazz. Also it's a good idea to spend an additional 50 bucks and get a decent external hard drive ( about 250gb at least) so you can back up your puter. You can also store things on there that might bog the performance of your puter. And remember, if, or when, all goes to hell with the hard drive just boot from the external.

Sony and Lenovo make fine machines. Their hardware is as good or better than Macs. Yall's problems are software and user related.

I owned a publishing company, at one time, and we bought between 10-15 computers a year. Mostly pc but always had a couple of Macs, too. My graphics artist and web developers gravitated towards the pc, mostly, which was completely against what most industry insiders preferred. Nothing wrong with either one if you get a good machine and os.

I've had good service from ASUS laptops. We have 4. They are cool running and have good battery life. I buy mine from newegg or newegg business when they have a sale. I paid $299 shipped each for mine. Take a look at the slickdeals forum. http://slickdeals.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?sduid=0&f=9They are the best way for me to find laptop deals among other things.

The monitor started acting up 6 months after I bought it. Now it has one of those large black paper clip things holding it together at the hinge. If I take that off the screen just flickers. The fan is not working correctly now so it overheats and shuts off. Now it's just started locking up at any given time.

I don't care for Sony or Lenovo. I'd rather have Lenovo of the two.
Toshiba makes a decent throw away laptop for less than $300. For most folks it works great. I"m on my 4th year with the one I have. I don't visit entertainment junk websites, I work off it and never have issues.
I also work on them so I don't have the same issues many have.

I've worked on a few. With any thing you get what you pay for. But if you take care of them just about any brand will give you great service. If your not, some hold up a lot better than others. Shoot me a PM.
