Their daughter has put them in a terrible position. They are probably telling themselves stories in an effort to find some way to believe and support their daughter. 1. This woman wasn't "missing". She is an adult that chose to do an adult thing, play a stupid game with her family. She needs to be charged criminally.
2. Hoover PD doesn't believe her story and didn't from from very early in this ordeal.
3. Prior to her "disappearance" she purchased snack foods that weren't in her car when Hoover PD arrived on the scene.
4. There's a post on social media where there is a screenshot of a message that Carlee supposedly sent to another girl (stripper) stating something about Carlee's boyfriend hooking up with the stripper and Carlee going to get revenge...
5. Also rumors about her failing nursing school and stealing from her employer at the spa where she was working.
I think she's and IDIOT and needs to be treated as such.
That being said, if she was my client:
1. I would have her admitted into a behavioral medicine unit;
2. She would be protected by HIPAA;
3. The media would only be able to say "we don't believe that she was abducted", "the community has no reason to be in fear".
4. The sheeple would all say "that girl has a mental problem" and they would then shift their attention to the newest dog and pony show elsewhere. Great post. I have also thought that checking in to a mental ward would be her best move, either way. If she wasn't abducted, or if she was, she needs help. I've given some thought to it, but no research, what charge would you think is most appropriate? Certainly, some sort of fraud, but what financial gain did she stand to make from it? Now if she was going to face unrelated charges, then I can see what she was going to gain.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Orange Jumpsuit and flip flops What crime? 25 year olds can run away from home if they choose to. Leaving a car on the side of a road is criminal but not serious, certainly not jailable. I had a good idea of the situation right off so I didn't follow it closely, did she report a crime to LE? I suppose she falsely reported the toddler on the side of the road, but there again, False Reporting is such a minor crime it isn't worth pursuing.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I don’t know whether or not she actually made a report, I’m sure she’s been interviewed, and probably lied. Now, if she planned this and had a co-conspirator as for raising money then that would be a different issue. When she made the call saying there was a toddler on the side of the interstate, she knew that would get immediate response from first responders. She knew that by leaving her car there, engine running, etc. that there would be immediate concerns and a search would ensue. This should be illegal and I’m sure that a creature district attorney can come up with something to charge her with. Would the prosecutor prevail, maybe not. Would it stop her from being arrested and going to jail, no. Would it break her from sucking eggs? Probably so.

I am not sure other than wasting Police Department time and funds, allegedly stealing from her employer, reporting seeing a toddler on the side of the highway, abandoning her auto there, leading folks to think she was kidnapped and fought off the kidnapper to gain her freedom to walk home. ?

Truly a situation where the best outcome in the end if to just see to it that the young lady gets the mental health help she needs. Make her and anyone complicit with her pay the City for the time and effort expended by LE.

She’s being treated like she’s 15 or so. Stop that chit. She is an adult. I don’t care if she’s living at home an “under my roof MY rules matter.” Legally she’s an adult and not a child. She can do whatever the hell she wants to do as an adult and suffer any consequences.

Send the bill. If unpaid within 30 days, get a judgement and start seizing and liquidating assets until it is paid in full. It'll take some time to work through the legal machine but it has to be done. White/Black/Yellow/Green/ or Orange, criminal or mentally retarded, doesnt matter. There were fraudulent accounts set up, which people contributed to. Costs incurred, first responders risked their lives responding, and taxpayer dollars expended, based all, on an intentional fraudulent claim. Make the ones behind it pay every penny it cost the taxpayers, and if they cannot pay, chase the fraud felony angle and put them in jail.
