many, many years ago I guided turkey hunting at Stagshead Lodge in Greene Co for Wayne Fears. One day he asked me if I would guide Charlie Elliot turkey hunting. Holy cow!!!! Never figured in a million years I would guide probably the most famous turkey hunter in the South in the 60's and 70's. Very cool fella. Had a great time.
Later I got to guide Bill Jordan of Border Patrol fame turkey hunting. His big hands made a 44Mag look small, he was a BIG man. Had a ball guiding him.

Good story Fred.

Know J Wayne well. He's got some scary Nam stories. I hung all his mounts at his home in Hampton Cove and was task with moving them all to his new home to hang. Had to rent a Uhaul. Also told a story of being left alone in Canada.

That’s a cool story. With those names, Mr. Fears got the right man for the job. He got his top guide to put a turkey in front of em. I’m not a gambler, but I bet they both killed, correct?

Super cool story. When you guided folks that you knew were already great turkey hunters did you guide as you always would have?(having them tag along and you calling/making the moves) Or would you give them the option to call/setup even though they didn’t necessarily know the lay of the land? Just didn’t know how you handled the hunt with folks like that.

BC, handled it both ways. I'd sure as heck let them call if they wanted to and just use my knowledge of the birds and land. I was real self conscious calling for Mr Elliot but he was cool with it.

He lives in Demopolis now, but was a guide out that way towards Livingston back in the day.

I got a chance to meet Mr. Charlie in 1986. I had graduated forestry school at Auburn and jobs were scarce so I took a temporary job guiding at Burnt Pine Plantation in Madison, GA. We had a dove shoot for Winchester and I got to put Mr. Charlie out and check on him during the afternoon. Super nice man and absolutely deadly with a shotgun.

10 4, I can imagine. I have a bad habit of trying to walk a fella way too far for them to enjoy hunting with me. I’m always trying to find the medium between their hunting style and them getting a chance to kill a bird. It’s just about a game in itself it seems

a friend in Wilcox Co asked me to come down and guide a fella for him, I didn't know the guy and met him at the Bassmaster Inn at 4am the next Sat. Older fella. I carried him to a property Roy owned and we got out to listen. Fella had a short barrelled double sxs shotgun. WTH? We got on a bird pretty quick but he didn't want to come to where we set up. After a while he asked if he could call. Damn, he sounded better than me. Now he tells me he shot at this bird the day before in this same area. And his gun is a custom made Perazziti(sp) with full and full 24 inch tubes!!!. ...and he has killed several hundred turkeys in his life.....

Roy was real bad to leave out important information ....

I’m not familiar with any of those people y’all speak of, but why in the world would an accomplished and experienced turkey hunt want or need a guide?
