Honda Pioneers are definitely reliable. But I hear several complaints about them being hot. The 700 top speed is only 43mph, whereas the 1000 will run about 67. They do get hot under the seat due to the location of the engine, but that center part of the seat on the 700 isn’t meant to be a seat anyway. That’s been my only true complaint on them. Everything else is fine. Wish they’d engineer some type of insulated material to go there.

I've heard some people use a cheap windshield sun screen that looks like aluminum foil to help reduce the heat.

Honda pioneer here. It does get a little hot on the seat. and it want hold back as good as the yamaha coming down one of these jackson county steep as a mule face mountains.(the 700). I use one daily i have drove it in some terrible places because i bought some swamp land and we got a rode through it through trial and error. I think there are 6 axles i replaced before i went to rhinos.So yes its been rode hard and put up wet. I do change oil at least 2 times a year and sometimes 3. when it quits i will have another one just like it

Kawasaki Mule. Buy new. That way you know what you’re getting and how it’s been maintained. I had a Honda pioneer 700. Decent machine but I just didn’t like it. They are hot and pretty loud. The Mule is quiet and built like a tank.

Kawasaki Mule. Buy new. That way you know what you’re getting and how it’s been maintained. I had a Honda pioneer 700. Decent machine but I just didn’t like it. They are hot and pretty loud. The Mule is quiet and built like a tank. I will say I’ve been impressed with the newer mules. They are quiet and some models have substantially more ground clearance and low end torque.

Just bought a 2022 Honda Pioneer 1000-5 Forest Edition last fall. I previously had a 2016 Yahama Viking (best belt drive transmission in the business and bullet proof engine) which was a great machine too. So far the Pioneer has been very reliable although pretty pricy as they were very hard to find back then. Paid $25K out the door, It came with a lot of accessories already installed (Warn Winch, Windshield, Roof, nice rims, camo color, etc,),
Pros are it's very quick power (1000 CC twin cyl Honda), no belt auto 6 speed transmission with automatic or manual modes with paddle shifters, the ride is great, very roomy up front for 3 big passengers, very quiet especially after break-in (can actually hold a normal conversation up front without yelling) and what I like a lot is a TURF mode that unlocks the rear differential which allows it to turn on a dime and not tear up your yard and not "PUSH" the front end when turning causing a lot of front tire wear, And most of all its a HONDA (very reliable and holds value very well)
Cons are the weight (prob close to 2000 lbs), It is kinda jerky when downshifting especially when slowing down rapidly in AUTO mode, back jump seats are small and the doors could be tighter and better built.

No complaints on my 17 general 1000.
Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts,hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

Ground clearance is my only issue with the Mule. I intend to put a 2 inch lift kit and 25 inch tire to relieve that problem. It has more low end torque than anything I’ve used.

Would love to hear some more input on the Yamaha Viking. Appreciate everyone for commenting thus far - very helpful insights! It's too freakin big! The ones I've seen are crew cab and looked way too wide and long. But I didn't bust out a tape measure. Polaris, Kawasaki, and Honda are all good.

Agreed, I had 2 rangers prior to my current 2019 Can Am. There is no comparison between Polaris and Can Am anymore, Can Am blows the ranger away in every aspect. I have 4,300 miles on my 2019 Defender and all I have done is brake pads once, fluid/filter changes, and had valves adjusted once. I also changed the in tank fuel filter twice. I like the Hondas but then not having a true crew cab took them off my list. I have 3 or 4 people in mine a lot while using the dump bed.

I have owned Bobcat/// Yamaha ///Gators [3]and 2 Mules and my choice is the Mule dependable quiet and powerful and comfortable
