Just wondering if anyone has bought a new Toyota lately? My wife was wanting to look at a new Rav4 and Highlander to compare the two. We probably will buy something this year. The days of going to the stealership and looking at vehicles are over. My understanding is get on a list and take what they get in. Can't hardly find anything on the lots except used. And they have them priced very close to what a new one cost. They are still blaming Covid for this mess. Then every dealer wants to charge a market adjustment. Just another way to rip off the working man.

I bought a Toyota about a month ago. Looked at several brands and they all said the same thing. Covid taught the manufacturers a lesson. I was told on several different occasions that the manufacturers will only alot certain vehicles to each dealership. So if they don’t have what you want at a specific dealership, you’ll have to go elsewhere or arrange for the dealership to trade for what you want. The dealership will then require you to pay a holding fee which will apply to the vehicle total.

The manufacturers are doing this to keep the prices inflated because they can’t make it anymore if they don’t get the premium prices. And they know that supply and demand will dictate the price in their favor when supply is low. People will pay all these stupid fees and such in order to get the package, color etc.. they want.

Bought the wife back in February a Camry from Tuscaloosa Toyota and they wouldn’t budge on Sticker price. We bought new like you said used cars are as much as new.

Yep what I posted above is what is going to keep people paying sticker price. Unless they can get people in bidding wars again and then the price will go up.

I just bought a tundra 23 3 weeks ago…yeah I bought at msrp and didn’t get any lower. I checked multiple places and it was tough enough to find one that hasn’t been pre sold…I bought mine before it even made it to the lot.

find a salesman you like at a dealer you like, and tell him/her what you want after you decide between the Rav and Highlander. the salesman will keep you apprised of what is in the pipeline. are you in Winchester as in Tennessee?

Lots of reports of auto sales dropping and the market changing. There’s sale incentives being advertised and reports of layoffs at factories.

Covid did change just how dealerships will operate in the future. Preordering vehicles will become the norm with just a few on site for reference. It’ll save dealerships space which will be geared more towards service centers. It has been heading that way but Covid ramped up the change.

It aggravates me, but at the same time. If people keep paying it, why wouldn't they keep charging top dollar.

Bought my wife a RAV4 back in October from Tuscaloosa Toyota. Very limited selection and they would not budge on the sticker price. Couldn’t even get them to throw the floor mats in.

We have been looking for months. Or, my wife has. I already would have bought something by now.

IMO the Highlander would be better than the RAV 4 unless your wife is about 4-foot-9. The headspace in the Rav is tight, IMO. We had both vehicles - I had the Highlander, daughter had the Rav (older model) and I drove it for 7-8 months. I felt like Grape Ape in there. The vehicle itself was OK and did what I needed it to do. It hauled fishing and hunting gear, took me from Buffalo to Orlando and west for trips, and I never had major issue with it. The Highlander was bigger and more comfortable, for me.

I believe if (when) we get one, it would be the Highlander over the RAV.

As for price, we were told by multiple sales guys that dealers went whole hog on the used market during the C19 mess. They're trying to recoup, and so they aren't budging on prices. We found new vehicles priced for less than used. Made no sense. But if we were going to spend x-amount on one, it would be for a new.

Also, we tried a couple of Hybrid models. No issues during the test drive other than being quiet. Speed was good, pickup was good. I told my wife to smash the pedal to the floor and the Highlander jumped. I'd have to study more but I'd probably opt for the Hybrid model.

This was something else we found out. Some of the "extras" were higher priced add-ons. They're listed on the sticker posted on the window. We didn't need $1,200 floor mats or hundreds for "protective undercarriage coating". What dipchit thinks anyone is dumb enough to buy these?

It's almost now like a la carte dining but for cars.

Just a couple weeks ago I saw my truck listed, 2018 GMC Sierra 4wd, for $10K over what I paid for it used 3 years ago. Absolutely crazy

Lynch Toyota in Auburn is the only dealer that I’ve found that has Highlanders in stock. None at Eastern Shore or the Montgomery dealers.

We are waiting for the bigger Grand Highlander that is supposed to be here in the fall.

Bought the wife a 4Runner back in November. Found one in one of the colors she was wanting over in P'cola. Drove over one Saturday afternoon to look at it, with no intentions of bringing it home that day. Drove it home about an hour or so later. It was replacing one that she had totaled a month earlier so it's not like we were going in blind.

That under carriage coating is probably a good idea for city folks up north where they put salt on the roads. It'll rust one out bad. Found that out the hard way one time.

Ordered a set of WeatherTechs for it. Whole lot cheaper and better made.

I bought a 2023 Highlander in December. We were going to purchase a RAV4. I got in the passenger side and said this would do. Luckily my wife made me come around and climb in the drivers side and I had to tuck my head against my neck and still had my head scrape the roof getting in behind the steering wheel. Of course I said no to the Rave 4 and we Toyota bought the Highlander for the extra room in hight and side room.
Was able to negotiate a thousand off of sticker price. And I had told them going in that i was not paying market adjustment.
We have a daughter in Huntsville and bought it from Bill Penny Toyota. They had 6 Rav 4 and several new Highlanders in stock.

My wife and I drove to Sylacauga (3hrs away from us) and spent an hour or 4 playing the dealership game. They had what I wanted, available, and under sticker price…they were the closest to me that had sticker or below pricing AND in stock The next closest were 5-6hrs away in TN, LA, AR. Said they get a better allotment of trucks due to most customers using Toyota Financing, but I don’t know if that applies to them getting more mid sized suv models, though.
I was almost to the point of flying up to KY, MO, KS and driving back in one, due to the same situation you’re running into…no stock, only lists to jump on for what they have ordered, not necessarily what you want and unreliable delivery dates.
