Our 15 year old Train unit for our bonus room will need to be replaced soon. Got a company coming tomorrow to start the estimate process. I’m not Train loyal and honestly we have had a number of failures with this unit over the years. Could have been a crappy install. Who knows. Anyone got any guesses on cost?

Lots of variables. $3-4 k per ton but there’s so many things that affect the price. Get quotes from multiple contractors, especially those that you get a recommendation for.

I’d hook up a split unit to your current ductwork. Things are amazing

My guys are scheduled for a 2 ton changeout in Madison tomorrow, cost on it is right around 13k. It’s a very upgraded model though. Depending on what’s needed and etc, you could be between 6500-8500ish and up to as much as you want to spend.

What part of North Bama are you in?

Feel free to send me a pm/text or call if you have any questions about their pricing or options. I worked in Huntsville for 11 years before starting our own company a few years back, I have pretty good knowledge of most companies in Madison County.

We don’t actively look for business in the Madison area right now, but will entertain stuff as it comes our way.

Goodness, was this an actual company or a “guy”?

replaced a couple recently. $2500/ton is a good estimate in central AL.

where is the bonus room located? is it bonus enough to be a candidate for a mini split?

I’m replacing a 2 ton unit (inside and out) tomorrow at a rental. It’s either a Heil or Goodman and it was $4900

Did a 3 ton Rheem with air handler and gas furnace about a month ago. $8k. Think that was one the high side…

Sounds reasonable and no more than I'd expect to pay.

If it's a just a bonus room I would look into mini splits. They are only 2 on the market I'd recommend though one is daikin and the other is Mitsubishi

Thank you JBatey.

It is over the garage. If we did a mini split I think the outside portion would have lines running down the side of the house that my wife would not appreciate and maybe not me either. I’ll have them price a mini split just to be able to compare.

I’m guessing the cost will be more than expected, but it seems everything has gone up to that point. I’ll update after they visit.

You are going to have to run lines to the outside unit either way.

We’ll he’s probably referring to being able to re-use the existing lineset for the traditional split system vs having to run a new lineset for the mini-splits. I’m guessing the existing lineset isn’t exposed on the exterior wall.

Ok had two Daiken options quoted. One is the traditional split system the other is a Daiken Fit mini split. New pan, etc.. 10-12k. The Daiken fit would have an air handler in the attic ( where the current one is ) and use the existing duct work and lines. I guess that is different than the other version of a mini split, which doesn’t have the air handler. I have no idea if my terminology is correct.

So 10-12k is the number..
