How do yall deal with a real idiot for a high school coach? Iam not talking as a dad that my som dont get enough playing time or anything because he actually is a starter, he just does not know the game and how to run a program. The kids on the team dont like him but dont want to just sit out and not play. He always yells at them that he "knows the game better than anybody" and he lets the refs know that also, cause i have sat and watched him tell them. We started out with a open mind and tried to be nice and help him out with some fundraisers and help him get the things he wanted or needed for the boys and he just dosent want any help and he is very self centered and to himself. The principal loves him and takes up for him in every instance like they are some butt buddies or something. He makes the stupidest calls anyone has ever seen, we asked alot of people from his old school if they would take him back and every single one laughed and said they hate for us but sure are glad he left them. So the question is what do you do as a parent other than drag him out in the parking lot and curb stomp him and try to make him leave?

In this case its basketball, but we have the same problem in football also. Well i have told him to do same as yall walker and he said he would but he didnt think it would change anything and he would miss playing. I think only way to change it is all the boys walk out but thats risky cause all may not go

I coached soccer for 18 seasons and won way more than I lost. Parents are the worst part of coaching. I’m not saying that is the case here, but way more times than not.

Change schools. That’s your only option. It’s his program. Not yours or your son’s. It may suck but that’s just the way it is. It sounds like you have tried to help all you can. Either don’t play next season or go to a school with a coach that you like. No high school programs are perfect. You won’t be totally satisfied no matter where you go.

I know most coaches or programs suck in some way and parents are idiots, having said that i have bever been around a coach that no kid in the school likes or parent, and have never been around a coach that atleast somebody from a former school he was at could at least give me one good thing about him. I even talked to a couple of coaches that was with him at his former school that iam friends with and they said he just sux as a coach and a human being and they are just glad he left. The high school he went to is right down the road and i cant find anyone that wants him around down there either. I just guess it is what it is and we are stuck with a fool and if my kid wants to play and the other kids just want to play thats what they will have to do even though they all cant stand him either. Just sux for the kids up here going into jr year

Yeah he sounds like he has a bad reputation and that the kids and parents don’t like him. Sounds like he is making his boss happy though which is what matters when you are an employee. Like I said, changing schools might be the only option. Or use it as a teaching point with your son. Sometimes the world puts you in crappy situations. Show him how to make the most of it.

One question though, does the guy win?

No the guy dont win and never won at his old school either, took a team last year that should have easily won 15 games and won 3. The kids say he is a complete idiot in the classroom also. He seems bipolar or something, i just told my son and the other boys that were around asking what to do that unless they all leave it will not change and that they are going into 11th grade and have been together since 2nd grade playing dont let that fool ruin it for them. They are a decent group and with a just half way decent coach could have a really good 11th and 12th grade seasons, or at least by our schools expectations of a basketball team would.

That sux, I ran into that in baseball my sophmore yr...coach had no clue what to do so we had a couple seniors step up and start running practices and doing the lineups after the whole team decided on who.....We just kinda took it off his hands so to speak, super good guy just had no clue about coaching baseball....Maybe those boys will stay together....

Our schools athletics are going downhill fast. It sucks for our older kids. Itll never get better for our older kids. Maybe the younger ones will see some kind of change. Im not hopeful.

Had that situation all through HS football. All but one coach were pretty much useless. Saw guys get needlessly injured in the weight room and in practice because they didn’t know how to coach football. It was mind boggling how bad these guys were as coaches, especially when I went to college and got around true coaches of the game, but they were good teachers so I get why our principal wouldn’t remove them as coaches. Still sucks to see your friends get concussions or blown out knees in practice because all the coaches knew to do for practice was full contact drills or live scrimmages.

It’s a crappy situation for your kid MJ but short of transferring there’s not much you can do.

We hav 8th graders playing varsity football and getting hurt. Im no football coach, im a tree climber but ive seen some ignorance on our football field in the past year that even a tree climber could spot. Its mind boggling. Also seen some pure crazy stuff on the basketball court that cost us games. 8-10pt leads blown just by dumb decisions or benching the one guy on the team who is hot.

Your right and i cant stand to see it any more. We got a assistant jv coach but he told me he didnt know how long he was gonna be there cause this guy is so dumb its mind blowing to him, and this guy is a really good coach and i was glad he is out there, but when the assistants are jumping ship because he is that stupid it makes me mad. The coach is an embarassment to our whole school, everywhere we went last year the other fans were making fun of him and thought he was a joke

pull your kids out of school sports. you don't need to be provided government funded sports. Every NFL team out there has a walk on program. coaches at high schools are not real coaches they are teachers that run a daycare program after school.

We had a really good coach for basketball 2 years ago, the kids loved playing for him and the parents liked him, the boosters really enjoyed doing things for him, he promoted the program and had alot of intrest from the school and community. The only problem was he wouldnt kiss the principals butt and so he left and went to a rival school and kicked our butt all over the court

Basketball at a public schools is typically supplemented through the booster club. If there is no booster club supporting the basketball program then nobody at the school really cares about basketball.

IF there is a booster club that cares about basketball, then stop the extra money flowing in and the situation will resolve itself in short order.

Varsity Coaches are hired to win games not excel in the classroom. If NOT winning games doesn’t get him fired, then your kid is at the wrong school if he’s serious about basketball.
