As a former Marine, I would recommend:
1. Space Force, Air Force, Coast Guard. In that order.
2. The young person needs to have a REALLY GOOD IDEA of what they would like to do for a career either in the military or in civilian life before they sign any papers.
I think it depends on your job. Our CG aviation guys work every component on the aircraft with inly 2 ratings. AF guys are typically stuck working specific components. I know nothing about space force. AF definitely has the upper hand with of duty things to do I will say that I had some buddies in the Marine Air Wing stationed at Cherry Point, we called them "Wingers." They had it pretty good for Marines. Officers treat you pretty good when you are working on their aircraft.

AF is all about the people/family. One of my mentors is a AF General. Army and MC is all about the mission. Navy is all about the assets. Seriously what does he want to do occupation wise.

32 years and counting piloting keyboards with the Air Force; first as enlisted then contractor and now as a civilian employee. I have benefited greatly from the knowledge, discipline and comradery I’ve gained. Could make way more in the private sector but I love what I do.

My 22 yr old is considering going to an AF recruiter just to see what’s what. I told him I’d go with him, but he needs to decide what MOS to choose. He likes the “safety” aspects of things. There’s a “safety” MOS. Any opinions on it? https://www.airforce.com/careers/law-and-order/safety

Either one would do your son good if/when he got out. If you go to usajobs.gov and search under job series 0018 (Safety and Occupational Health Mgmt), or 0346 (Logistics Management Specialist), you'll find alot of opportunities. Both are good, but 0346 would be a great choice.

You are welcome. There's also Maintenance Manager positions, but when you look at it from a higher level, there's the maintenance, supply, and transportation requirements that many 0346's have to consider.

Spent 21 yrs in the army. Back when I joined the AF Had a waiting list. Didn't take me too many years to realize I should have got on that list!

There were a couple of kids at my sons senior awards night that were recognized for joining the Navy. Both got $15k signing bonuses and the navy will pay up to $400k in college tuition over a three year period. That sounded like a heck of a deal.

Whats funny is I exited a helo in my flight gear and was hard if hearing due to double hearing protection and the head turning

The redline is a USAF thing on every flightline I ever worked. (MAC, ACC, USAFE, etc). Sometimes it's a red rope, but we knew there were entry control points you could only enter/exit from.
