I have had a trail cam (cell) on a hog wallow since mid January. It is located on a sunken road in the middle of a 25 year old pine stand and the hogs have wallowed out an area in the clay roadbed. The soils in the area are sandy loam and we have several of these where they have found clay areas and created a wallow. What has been interesting is that deer visit the wallow just as much as the hogs do. This has been consistent over the 4.5 months I have had the camera there. I guess they are drinking the water it holds or are after a mineral deposit. Anybody ever had the same observation or had success hunting deer over a hog wallow?

Been hunting this property for many years and this has never been a salt or mineral lick. Maybe a natural mineral spot.

Clay often has minerals that animals want, whether salt or other.

Hogs use our mineral licks to wallow in all yr and the deer use them just the same so I would say you definately have a mineral deal be it man made or natural
