Anyone seen monster trophy whitetails???? He's abt as much of a Hunter as I am a astronaut. He sneaks up on 200"+ deer on nearly every show. High fence much???That show is a joke

I doubt he could sneak up on a deaf yearling in January here in Alabama

listen, someone brings up high fence and they are burned at the stake. i don't care one way or another if somebody owns 1000 acres with a fence or without a fence. just because somebody puts a fence up doesn't tell you his hunting habits and beliefs. to all the haters, he could be gun hunting in blue jeans and penny loafers set up on a feeder while the guy he pays 50k a year to take care of the place rides around and stirs up the deer. OR it might be a bowhunting fanatic, like me, who just likes to be in control of his property. spending countless hours preparing his land to produce the biggest baddest bucks he can and meticulously hanging the right set, glassing, patterning, and aging his herd.. in order to harvest a deer that he has watched for the last 5 years turn from a basket 6 to 150" 10.

that guy seems pretty awesome in my book, the first guy sucks.. my point is the fence doesn't define the hunter

Deer size aside. Here in Bama you fence in several hundred acres of thick cover. It isn't a cake walk, that much land and cover you could still hunt your azz off and see nothing worth shooting. Yes I do think its wrong in small impoundments, but come on over several hundred has no effect except to keep poachers out.

fence won't keep either out...

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

The 1000 acre guy paid (upfront and in future taxes, etc) much more for property compared with the 100 acre guy. You say "big money man with 1000 acres" kind of like Obama talks down about wealthy people like they're inherantly evil. The 100 acre guy could also fence his place. All goes back to property rights. No one else is paying the 1000 acre man's property taxes or mortgage. He should be able to do what he wants to (within state law) on his personal property as long as it doesn't affect your personal property (land). Wild deer are no one individual's personal property, so as long as state law is followed I have no problem.

Most large game fences are built to keep deer out, not in, to manage the overall deer herd & habitat.

You hit the nail on the head, wild deer are no one individual's personal property..............therefore when you fence them in, what have you done??????? Are you going to give me a key so I can come in and take a few deer that belong to the State??

I realize that.........but I can quote you an incident that happened in Hardaway a few years ago, it didn't keep the Wardens out, but it created an early retirement for one.
I'm sure you had a few dealings with politics in your years as a GW.

Insert fence here and that stops and I am no longer wasting my HARD EARNED money. If you want the "states" deer then have the state come in and get them and I'll buy more and breed my own herd...

See, you're taking both sides of it. You're acting like they are your deer, and they aren't. The man shooting the 2 year old deer, as long as he's doing it legally, should not be at fault. You're trying to tell him what to do on his property, yet you don't want anyone telling you what not to do with yours....

Now you'll tell me I can't dam up a creek that runs through my property to make a lake, because game & fish are both regulated by the state. If I built a lake, the fish are confined to my property and can't go downstream to your property. But I still have to abide by state Game & Fish laws because these game fish are owned by the state of Alabama. This sounds like Hugo Chavez/Daniel Ortega/Raul Castro...take away personal property rights from private land owners.

They will stop you from damming a creek on you property in a minute. You cant hardly build a pond in florda anymore. Its about to get a lot worse in alabama.

I just love hunting as long as its legal. Don't really care how they get there what's around it if anything or what somebody else is doing. Just be happy you get to hunt and thank god each and everytime you get to go

I think most of you guys are missing the boat on fencing in the states deer. The guys I know that have fenced in properties would and have invited the state to come get their deer.

Guess how many times that has happened...

I have "hunted" in a high fence 2,600 acre farm and even with that much land - I can assure you it is not hunting. There were three of us in a "condo" shooting house and deer started coming into the field immediately. I finally decided to take a doe with my shotgun. After I shot, we went to go find the deer. However, I must have missed as I was using iron sights on the shotgun. The three of us trampled all over the woods looking for that deer. Finally, we decided we would get back in the shooting house and hunt a little more. Not 10 minutes after getting back into the shooting house, huge bucks started coming back into the field. It was something that would not of happened in "the wild." My buddy finally shot a cull buck and we went out into the field again and dragged that deer up to the shooting house. I might add that he shot twice at that deer. So, with a little daylight left, we got back into the shooting house and deer began to come into the field AGAIN! It was really pretty dumb. Felt like you were in a petting zoo.

I'm not against folks having high fence areas and I don't think it is the government's job to tell you one way or the other but if I ever make it big - I'll put my money towards more land, not high fence.

I don't even like hunting on big green fields where you watch deer all day and then shoot big daddy when he walks out in January. To me, that's like hunting goats at my farm. BUT, if that's how you want to do it, it's legal, and it gets you outdoors and you enjoy it, have at it. To each his own. If I got invited to go to a high fence operation, no way I would turn it down.
