I've been low-key checking on water well prices for years since I may need one in the future. $10,000 seems to be a common estimate for a residential water well, but the problem beyond cost is that there are so few companies left that will drill and completely outfit a residential well. What happens when you're waving cash money but no one will come to your house and drill a well?
As difficult as it is for rural customers to get county water service in many places, it seems like well drilling companies would be more common.

Also finding folks to come work on them when they have issues...and they will. I have one at my home here in Milton that is only for the sprinklers and outdoor faucets and had one at my place in Troy. Between the 2 of them over a 6 year period I had 3 pumps replaced, solenoids, etc.

Check with Donald Smith Well Drilling in Headland, Al. I think he still does residential wells. He is the best but he charges for it. He just quoted a buddy $17,000 for a well in Henry County. He wound up getting the Branton boys out of Rehobeth to do it for $8500.
