I use these openings on my houses and have only had two incidents of "wing entrapment" over the past 15 years. One I noticed and was able to free the martin shortly after it became entrapped, another went unnoticed while we were away and the bird entrapped died along with the babies trapped inside.


Here's a list of most of the SREH. The "Duke's Modified Excluder" is my favorite. It use to be known as a WDC entrance, but Duke Snyder has a patent on the Excluder design entrances and he threatened to sue Willie Conley for using the similar style entrance. I've cut many of those entrances into natural gourds and they work great.
