I’ve always used Leupold. Been thinking hard about those Vortex scopes tho. The glass looks good and won’t break the bank.

I have a vortex I really like on my older .270 that I really like. cannot make it stay zeroed. think it has more to do with the gun and maybe scope mounts. we will see. I was just interested in some learned opinions for my next purchase.

A scope that won't stay zeroed ain't worth spit.
The first and most important function of a scope is as a aiming device for the weapon. If it can't do that reliably, the quality of the glass, etc. doesn't matter.

Look at europtic or optics planet. Both are good stocked and priced. For that budget you’re not going to beat a Vortex Viper HS. Agree. Seen a couple at $399 before coupon codes.

AU33- zeroed gun with new Vortex scope in October. Then shot hog at 180 yards first weekend of deer season. Put the .270 in safe. Removed from safe, went to Texas, kept gun in cabin of airplane during trip. Shot a management 9 point at 120 yds. Deer reared up and dropped in his tracks. put gun down in rack, did not chamber another shell. 2 minutes later I look up and deer is running into the brush. After 2 hrs. of looking for blood beyond hit site, and a $400 tracking dog episode- No deer. Took gun to the lodge, and shot at exactly 120 yds. round hit 7" high. So I figured I hit the deer in no man's land, shocked his spine and once he recovered, away he went. So I don't know what it is- gun or scope.

So just to be clear, you didn’t confirm zero on your scoped rifle after traveling on a plane prior to hunting?

I'd you're gonna do stuff like that you need bombproof stock, bedding, mount and scope. Also some places in TX look flat, but they're at much higher elevation then AL. Hafta rezero anyway.

Either the scope is a POS or it was not mounted properly. If it's the scope you got to use the famous Vortex warranty everyone loves when buying their crap. But Vortex can't replace lost opportunities with a warranty...

Not checking zero on arrival is on me- know better,...plane was late getting into Cotulla and we rushed off to hunt that afternoon. I am going to have new bases and rings put on that particular gun and re-mount scope.

It's too easy to mount a Meopta in DNZ one piece. Degrease everything with alcohol and use blue loctite. Level the rifle with a level and the reticle with plumb bob. Boresight by sighting down the bore.
After you zero the scope, whack the mounts with a dead blow hammer. Shoot to confirm. Whack the turrets with hammer. Shoot. You gain confidence by knowing it's done right and confirming integrity.

Can you also use a Nightforce to whack the turrets on the Meopta ?
