So took my daughter to the doctor and we have family PEEHIP coverage, pay every month the dues right out of my wifes check, we get there and the nurse said we owed them money and i needed to pay on it, and i told her that she could charge the insurance company and i would pay the co-pay and nothing else. She showed me a print out that showed where the insurance didnt pay parts of our visit and i told her tuff luck that i paid the monthly payments and co-pays and wasnt gonna pay anything else, she told me that they charge people without insurance $30 a visit and my co-pay is $35 so iam screwd right there out of $5 plus my monthly insurance payments, ao why in the world do i pay for the insurance if i can just pay the $30 and walk out. She said thats the way it was and she normally told people it was cheaper to just pay the 30. According to her we have a really high deductable and thats why i owed them money. My wife is supposed to be checking into it to see what the crap is going on, but i hate insurance and PEEHIP

I’m not sure about RSA stuff but the way insurance works is you have to pay your deductible out of pocket before they start to cover things. You probably just haven’t met your deductible yet. That’s the jest of it anyways. Of course there are some things with no deductible or a higher deductible. You will just have to look at your policy.

Didnt think we had a deductable or we didnt in the past, but what gets me is it would be cheaper to not have insurance at all

Insurance is really only good for catastrophic problems. What kills you over time are co-pays for check-ups.

PEEHIP has a $35 copay. The kicker is every test the doctor runs is $5. So if you’d previous visit had a lot of test run then you would have the copay plus the $5 in each test balance due.
Nothing worse they getting a $5 bill in the mail.
I had one visit during Covid in which the doctor ordered some PCR test that checked for several different viruses. The bill was over hundred dollars and I ended up just having Covid.

Well am i wrong for thinking that once i pay my co-pay i should be done paying? If the doctor wants to run a test why do i have to pay extra $5? Why dont the insurance take care of that also its not like its a luxury item i asked for

I joined a physicians office recently. $120 a month for my wife and I. They don't charge for regular visits and a number of small procedures like skin tag removal and such. Most often they can handle things without an office visit, through their app. I've never had to wait, can walk in if I want and never had to wait more than a few minutes. 5 minutes from my house. They took a little over 200 patients and capped it off. My son is on a waiting list to join.

If I file blood work and other items on my insurance, it's 3x the price if I pay it myself. I like this a whole lot better than my previous physicians office setup. Never answered the phone, weeks to months for a visit.

Is this called a concierge plan of the Dr office?

Copay covers office visit, anything else is extra but it is at a discount. Surgery is 75 copay I think

Back once this obama care came into place the good BCBS we had went to crap as the deductibles had been raised so much. And one that hit us the worse was physical therapy. Before we had a secondary insurance. At the time I had a son in school sports and every time he was hurt the docs recommended PT. I had compressed disc also. I went and at that time it was 2300 per person yearly deductible. They told me this and I laughed and said it wasn’t happening. The manager a real nice guy spoke to me and asked what I felt comfortable paying each visit and not even involving BCBS and I simply went that route. Now luckily we have a secondary insurance that pays well. Our BCBS supports the pulp industry in sending letters telling how they negotiated the bill down and didn’t pay a dime.

And another thing I was told was the PT place actually received more real money thru me paying a small amount than if it had been filed and paid thru insurance.

You will get an EOB (explanation of benefits) later telling what the insurance covered and what remains to be paid by you.

Oh yeah…be very Thankful that you have good insurance like PEEHIP and low family coverage premium as a result. There are definitely worse plans out there.
