H2S gas, Caustic acid, potential blow-outs………on a week and off a week, but it took 13 hours one way trip. I started dreading going back after 3 days home.1982 Dual Drilling Company, rig 27. Hard work, but we sure ate well.
A couple of folks here have mentioned eating well. I have an acquaintance who is a chef on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. From what I understand, he goes above and beyond to make sure his guys have meals that are top notch: quality ingredients and meats, lots of real cheese & cream, rotation of menu so they aren't eating the same thing all the time, etc. He says it's a lot of planning and work, but the workers who are facing real danger every day really appreciate a quality cook who goes the extra mile for them.
