The is no reasonable way to have statewide season with the variance of rut timing throughout the state. There will be areas with spotted fawns in the early season, and areas where bucks have shed their antlers in the late season. I'm pretty sure this is why zone D and E were started. I think the most reasonable thing would be to expand that and set dates that are optimal for the area. This would be complicated, and I don't think ADCNR has the competence to pull that off properly, so maybe we should leave it alone.
Having antlered deer only in the first and last month of the season would help with both issues. ADCNR thinks does are the greatest threat to deer and must be eradicated, so I doubt that's happening.

I think we should keep things as simple as possible and not overcomplicate it any more than we have to. What would simplify things some is if we just said that bow hunting was open statewide from Oct 1 – Feb 10 and then we used the zone system we already have in place to lay out the gun hunting days for each zone within that time frame. Say no does statewide until after Nov 1 knowing that fawns don’t need protecting the same in every area but just use it as a means of basically applying some “doe days” across the boards on the front end of the season while keeping it as simple as possible.

I skimmed through this thread, but I don't trust any of our state biologists as far as setting seasons and bag limits anymore. After the turkey season changes, they're all incompetent in my mind, and I think it's all agenda and money driven. Bunch of idiot politicians is all they are

I think there should be a massive simplification of hunting regs overall. The only regs for private land should be season dates and bag limits. If not, you will have people with 5 acres killing 40 deer per year all year long. People do that in Alabama, but it's way less common since it's illegal.
I'm definitely not one to blindly follow The Experts, I defy them for a living. I reluctantly hand the reins of public land over to them though. I'm a firm believer in land being available for anyone to hunt, and there has to be some centralized control over it with how many people are around these days. It ain't the pioneering times anymore.

I've got an idea... No Hunting Regs, except for $5000 out of state licenses. This should bring shitty hunters who can't kill legally from all over the country to our state, and generate a lot of revenue. We use that money to release ungulates and game birds from all over the world. Hell, let's release some elephants and see what happens.

Different Density in different areas......should tell you what to Take......regardless of the Laws. Here in Chambers County I take maybe One or two legal Deer off of 220 Acres I Live On. Go down in Macon County a couple times on a 40 Acre Greenfield.....on a 3,000 Acre Plantation and see 50 Plus Deer per visit.....He tells to shoot a mature Doe EVERYTIME I go down there....Soooo......it all Depends the Locality

Mississippi used to be like that best I can remember. It was spilt seasons then went out Jan 15. Then a few years later it was spilt seasons but gun season went out January 15 and primitive weapon was until January 31. Then they threw the whole rule book out the window and opened the season October 15 for bow then gun picked up November 15 and went to February 15
