I just read this same thread on another forum specific to another state. The only difference is the other one didn't have a graph.

So, there's that.

Heck NO. Closing Dec 1-15 would ruin our season. Look at the rut map for north AL.

Pressure is not why they change their pattern on me. The deer have the same Pressure on my place year around. We’re constantly in the woods and riding, fishing. As a matter of fact, there’s less pressure during season because I stay out of certain areas. If no one hunted next year, deer would change their pattern during the fall based on daylight length and food sources. I start feeding in august and me going to and from the bait doesn’t stop them from moving in the daytime until around mid October. Ever heard the term “summer pattern”? They’re talking about deer, not people goobers. Oct 1 open would help catch a couple weeks of summer pattern. FYI I’ve shot a lot of big momma does with twins, only to see them grow up just fine “orphaned”…….

I’ve orphaned more fawns than I can remember and to my knowledge every one of them survived because they were/are all still doing just fine at the end of the season. Once they’ve lost spots they don’t need momma to survive. There’s not much biological argument against it. More often than not it’s an emotional argument. And that’s fine. If someone is emotionally against it, then I’d suggest they not do it. But biologically, a spotless fawn is going to be ok.

I'd love to see our season go back to Jan 31 closing. I also wish they'd split it for us , closing the season the first two weeks of December . But at this point I'm ready to just leave it alone , cause Chuck and Co. WILL screw it up worse!

Fawns born to late Jan estrous does are born in late August and early September……..When bow season open on Oct 15 most of them are 6-7 weeks old……Those born to second cycle does are even younger......How long does it typically take most fawns to lose their spots?

I've orphaned plenty of youngins in my life.

They either survive...

or they don't.

End all the segments of deer season. No bow season, muzzle loader season, youth season, dog season, stalk season. One deer season, kill them how you like. Change the 119 limit of does to something like 2. As far as dates, here I would like to see November 1 - Jan 20. Bump it forward 2-3 weeks for a handful of south Alabama counties.

A pack of coyotes can take down a full grown buck if he’s injured or run down…….I know some of y’all wont believe it if it isnt in a study but do think those same yotes wont hem up a spotted fawn that likely wont leave a small circle and has no idea where to run to for safety???..... smile

Here's something else to consider about this fawn discussion……..

The legalization of baiting has likely shifted a large percentage of bow season’s doe harvest numbers to the front end. Now with baiting being legal someone who wants to shoot a doe with their bow likely goes out there within the first few days or week of it being legal and thumps one off of a feeder……I think this year and next year is when you’re likely gonna start seeing the real impacts kicking in from legalized baiting. If I could draw a cartoon to represent our current situation we would all be in a car together that was headed into the ditch and above each guy’s head you would have them saying something different like……”We’re fine, nothing to see here”………..”Hold the wheel straight!!”……..”I aint turning the wheel for chit!!”……..”Hey, we’re all about to be in the ditch!!” grin

Prob cause she wasn’t bred until her second cycle due to over population. Need to shoot more does and less bucks.

That’s the heart of the rut in most of Lauderdale county

Not sure that would be popular up here

Could move them into Zone D if that's the case........Season would stay open during that time period and end earlier.
