If no one hunted next year, deer would change their pattern during the fall based on daylight length and food sources. I start feeding in august and me going to and from the bait doesn’t stop them from moving in the daytime until around mid October. Ever heard the term “summer pattern”? They’re talking about deer, not people goobers. Oct 1 open would help catch a couple weeks of summer pattern. FYI I’ve shot a lot of big momma does with twins, only to see them grow up just fine “orphaned”…….

I’ve orphaned more fawns than I can remember and to my knowledge every one of them survived because they were/are all still doing just fine at the end of the season. Once they’ve lost spots they don’t need momma to survive. There’s not much biological argument against it. More often than not it’s an emotional argument. And that’s fine. If someone is emotionally against it, then I’d suggest they not do it. But biologically, a spotless fawn is going to be ok.
