I think we should close deer season for Zones A, B, and C during the time period of Dec 1-15 and use those days so that the whole state opens Oct 1……..For those who want shorter rifle seasons this would help accomplish that goal by having 15 less gun days.... Zones D & E dates would be left as is……

Season should be:
Jan 1st - 15th archery
Jan 16th- Feb 15th rifle
Bag limits
1 buck per year
1 doe during archery season
That's it, for the whole state. If rut doesn't fall during those dates , too bad!!!

In addition to moving the opener back to Oct 1……we would make a new “Doe Season” that runs from Nov. 1 – Jan 15

Sincere question here. What is the purpose of changing the season? Is it to better adjust dates for the rut in places or just simply to keep pressure down? On private land you can literally not hunt during the lull periods (whether that be December, or mid January until the end of season where the rut is really early). If it were to better coincide with the rut in places then I would agree some places need a little tweaking.

Now if you are talking changing bag limits, that’s a different argument all together.

Why does everyone act like zones D and E are getting something extra by opening October 1, y’all realize our season ends 2 weeks early too right? Same amount of hunting days throughout the whole state in every zone

IMO, does shouldn't be killed in October. A lot of fawns still have spots then. What are their chances of survival without momma?

Season needs to close in north AL no later than Jan 31. Needs to close Jan 10-15 for a few areas.

Wouldn’t hurt my feelings at all to close January 15. I’ve seen deer shed first week in February for certain on our place before. I’ve heard of them shedding last week of January in the area

It would accomplish a few things………One would be allowing folks to hunt during one of the best time periods of the year for killing a good buck no matter when your rut occurs…..There’s a window of time right after they shed velvet in Oct when they make themselves vulnerable. Another thing it would accomplish is to take a little heat off of the doe herd by reducing the gun days where does are allowed to be killed as well as protecting fawns during the early season……Just help strike a little better balance without major restrictions being implemented. I don’t think the path we’re currently on is sustainable long term unless with either make some tweaks or the mentality of hunters change.

I'd be all for going back to the closing date of January 31st......at least in the northern 2/3 of the state. That would give me back the entire month of February for Sqwerlling with "Howie th' Wonder Dawg"....without pissing off any Deer hunters.

This shat is getting dumber by the year hunt how you want or go find another state to hunt in. Also these threads need to be in the general forum nothing is serious about any of them.

Here's the best thing about our deer season and it's limits.
You can decide to go hunting or not go hunting any time between the start and end date.
You can decide to shoot does or not.
You can decide to shoot any buck as long as it meets the legal description provided by the DCNR.
You can shoot any legal deer that you want, no matter where it came from, or where it's going, because these are free ranging animals that belong to every hunter with a license.
You can decide to be a part of the solution or a part of the problem by not recording or calling your harvest number per DCNR.
You can hunt any private or public land in any zone across the state if you choose to by leasing, and owning land or just driving to a WMA.

What did I miss?

I agree......I bet a very large percentage of orphaned fawns in today's woods get eaten by the yotes......
