Motorcraft FL1As on my old fords, AC Delco in the GMC. Wix is great ran them for years on a 5.7 Vortec. Napa gold being Wix is apparently true. Be careful with the AC Delcos with E suffix (ie. PF52E). Supposedly they’re en economy filter made for the big box stores. I run an oil sample from blackstone every now and again. Haven’t run one on the GMC yet, but with 18k on the clock thinking about doing it. Total insolubles rating is supposedly a good indication of how well the air and oil filters are working.

Motorcraft fl1a for me. Figure if it came on the engine it's the right one.

I use Fram the most but have found they all do the same thing. I can assure you they wouldn't be in buisness long if they were ruining engines.

I find it interesting that in all oil and filter threads on virtually any internet forum, that everyone is quick to offer advice on what oil or filter is best, simply on the basis of their own anecdotal evidence. "I use Hooperdoo oil and Hooperdoo filter in my Ramforvevy truck, and it's been running great for 63k miles..."

Well... The fact is, that almost any oil and any filter combination of the right fit and viscosity for your particular application when changed on a manufacturer's recommended schedule will allow your vehicle to perform as long as possible. I could run almost any off the shelf oil and filter in my truck, change them both at 5k intervals and it should easily go well over 200k miles.

I remember watching a video of a mechanic taking apart a Ram 3.6 Pentastar V6 engine from a Ram Promaster delivery van. Keep in mind that this is a vehicle in like Chicago, running around doing stop and go deliveries all day. It finally failed at something like 450k miles. And what finally killed it was the timing chain broke. The original timing chain. What the mechanic found was that the engine inside looked almost perfectly pristine. It was amazing. Now do you think that they are using premium oil and filters in a delivery truck? No they are using run of the mill fleet oil and filters, but the maintenance was at regular intervals.

If you really want to get into the weeds on things like oil and filters visit a dedicated forum like Bob's the oil guy and do some reading on there. There was an extensive test done on there a few years back where thousands of Subaru owners (Highly stressed turbocharged motors) collected data of all their vehicles, they used various popular and expensive oils and filters in the test, Royal Purple, Mobile One, all the way down to Rotella. They did this by documenting and sending each used sample to be analyzed by a lab for such things as iron content which would indicate wear.

What they found out was the ALL the oils were within an almost undistinguishable level of each other, with one of the cheapest oils, Rotella out performing the most expensive oils, and Mobile One and Royal Purple actually underperforming most of the other oils.

The point with all this is that just because Billy Bob uses Royal Purple pure synthetic and gold plated filters in his truck "...And it's been running great for 120k miles!" doesn't mean that combination is any better than Walmart oil and filters. And as a matter of fact the Walmart oil and filters, might be a little better.

Good information here. Bobistheoilguy.com is certainly the leading internet source on oil & filter info. I've been a member there for years and have read extensively there. That website attracts some extremely arrogant know it alls who are surely mechanically inclined but will tolerate no opinion other than their own. However, here's the surprising thing: the folks on Bobistheoilguy.com are quite positive on WM brand SuperTech oil and even SuperTech filters for the most part.

I use whatever filter they put on at Express Oil change or the odd time it might be at the dealership (maybe twice in the truck’s life). That, and I’ve always run full synthetic from when it was new and tried not to go over 8k between changes. Mine is a Nissan Frontier with a 4.0 and it’s never had engine related issues of any kind. Currently at 237,xxx

What brands do you use in your fleet?

Wix or Napa Gold on my cars. Motorcraft on the trucks. Never use FRAM they are horrible.

Fram oil filter possibly had something to do with my ford engine failure. Something about no anti flowback valve or something. So with new engine, I stick with motorcraft since that was what was used when they designed and built the engine. They aren’t expensive

Wix 80%+ of the time. The only fram I will use due to availability issues is the Ultra. Lots of videos on youtube concerning filter comparisons. The high end of each brand are all pretty good. Lower end Frams or just good enough to not void a warranty and nothing more. No such thing as a low quality Wix.

I used to use Purolator filters in all my vehicles. I stopped when I had a discussion with an Advance Auto guy that said they had a bunch of issues with them.

GM vehicle-AC Delco & Valvoline semi-synthetic
Hyundai-Factory Hyundai filter (there are tons of threads telling do not use aftermarket on the 3.3 motors). Full synthetic oil per mfg.
Dodge Ram 5.7-Mopar filter & semi-synthetic Valvoline.

I remember years ago when Ford came out with the 5.4 3-valve motor. After about 4-6 years, the motors were locking up left and right. I was at ADESA in Decatur trying to buy a 2008 4x4 Lariat that was hit easy in front for my personal truck. Guy beside of me blew me out of the water and I even went $500 above what I wanted to give. I aksed him later in the auction if he wanted to make a quick $200 and not even touch the truck. He gave $3500 for truck and sale fee. He told me he already had the motor sold for $4500. I was shocked. He said that people were going to quick oil changes and not using the recommended weight oil and the motors were locking up.

I have no clue. My truck sends me a text message saying I need a oil change. I click on the link in the message to schedule a appointment with the dealer.

I’ve typically used Wix or OEM but like Irish stated I believe they are all pretty close and regular maintenance is the key. I’ve also not abused a vehicle in a very long time. I laughed at the service advisor at the Harley one day when I told him that I service the bike myself. He said, you sure you don’t want a master mechanic doing that? I said sure, you know any? 😂 The reality is the young guy is the one doing the oil changes, the experienced guy is doing the big money jobs.

Company i work for owns a napa store . Wix is same as napa gold . Just remove one number a you got napa gold . Also we use LOTS of Rotella oil in equipment an seems be best oil out there especially for diesel engines. We never have engines failures because of oil or filters. I think the biggest thing is doing oil changes an service maintenance at regular intervals.

This is the motor I had to replace. Will not buy another Ford for this reason alone

Prefer k&n with nut on bottom.both vehicles I currently have the filters are tough to get to so the k&,n make it much easier.i buy mobil 1 when the k&n filters are not in stock.
Have used wix and purolater boss filters.probably just as good
Use Pennzoil platinum oil but only because mobil 1 was out of stock several times.have used amzoil a good bit years ago
