I find it interesting that in all oil and filter threads on virtually any internet forum, that everyone is quick to offer advice on what oil or filter is best, simply on the basis of their own anecdotal evidence. "I use Hooperdoo oil and Hooperdoo filter in my Ramforvevy truck, and it's been running great for 63k miles..."
Well... The fact is, that almost any oil and any filter combination of the right fit and viscosity for your particular application when changed on a manufacturer's recommended schedule will allow your vehicle to perform as long as possible. I could run almost any off the shelf oil and filter in my truck, change them both at 5k intervals and it should easily go well over 200k miles.
I remember watching a video of a mechanic taking apart a Ram 3.6 Pentastar V6 engine from a Ram Promaster delivery van. Keep in mind that this is a vehicle in like Chicago, running around doing stop and go deliveries all day. It finally failed at something like 450k miles. And what finally killed it was the timing chain broke. The original timing chain. What the mechanic found was that the engine inside looked almost perfectly pristine. It was amazing. Now do you think that they are using premium oil and filters in a delivery truck? No they are using run of the mill fleet oil and filters, but the maintenance was at regular intervals.
If you really want to get into the weeds on things like oil and filters visit a dedicated forum like Bob's the oil guy and do some reading on there. There was an extensive test done on there a few years back where thousands of Subaru owners (Highly stressed turbocharged motors) collected data of all their vehicles, they used various popular and expensive oils and filters in the test, Royal Purple, Mobile One, all the way down to Rotella. They did this by documenting and sending each used sample to be analyzed by a lab for such things as iron content which would indicate wear.
What they found out was the ALL the oils were within an almost undistinguishable level of each other, with one of the cheapest oils, Rotella out performing the most expensive oils, and Mobile One and Royal Purple actually underperforming most of the other oils.
The point with all this is that just because Billy Bob uses Royal Purple pure synthetic and gold plated filters in his truck "...And it's been running great for 120k miles!" doesn't mean that combination is any better than Walmart oil and filters. And as a matter of fact the Walmart oil and filters, might be a little better.
