I asked earlier but haven't seen an answer.
For you medical professionals, if someone wants to get checked out, what's the best test to ask for?
Nuclear stress test? Something else? Nuclear will show you everything you need to know

Sounds like lots of us are dealing with this stuff. I am an afib guy and when it kicks up it is pretty miserable. I had done well for a couple of years but so much bad, stressful stuff hit me about 6-8 months ago it kicked it off and I have never got right again. Was holding off on ablation until we got moved and settled here but the only be good Dothan cardio guy I had a recommend on is like 4 months for appt and about the same or more for the procedure. Don’t know if I can wait that long so I am looking for an alternative.

Nuclear stress test? Something else? Depends…if nothing going on yet/want to see how you stand there is the calcium test that kinda gives you likelihood of cardiac events happening. It’s like 200$ but if you have risks it might not be a bad option just for you to see without going further. Then you get up to the exercise stress test and nuclear stress test. That’s the cardiologist realm. The best you can do is a cardiac Cath to tell exactly what’s going on. This is also the more invasive option. I think they start with the treadmill stress if you can jog on a treadmill and then they ramp up to the nuclear. Echo is just a supped up US that looks at the valves and pumping ability. Lab wise: you need a lipid panel, thyroid, and basic cmp/cbc.

Guys. No disrespect but their are lots of books out there. Lots of options and opinions out there. To just focus on LDL and HDL is a mistake. Everyone has different issues that ultimately manifest into a heart issue. Heart Disease is the number 1 cause of death. Period!
For example: I had a guy in my Sunday school class that had 4 vessels blocked. Not overweight, not that old, (67), just had lost of disease. He had a stagged procedure where we do one side of the heart and then the other side a few days later. He was very lucky. I saw him in class a few weeks later and he told me about a book he read that gave a vegetarian diet that would “clean out” your arteries. I didn’t want to bust his bubble but I had to tell him that was complete BS!
If you want facts, hard core facts, go to the ACC database and look at the facts for yourself. Or you can just listen to people’s opinions. Either way we are all responsible for our own actions and have no one else to blame when it comes to the outcome of our health.

4 weeks out from Mitral valve replacement. If you don’t do a regular check up then please start. Mine was found 4-5 yrs ago. Been keeping an eye on it. This past yr got Covid and never got my endurance back from that. They checked it again in sept and had the valve replaced end of Nov.

Not a good mix from what I read. I’ve taken vitamins most of my life. My mom believed fully in vitamins to the point it was detrimental to her health. She used to drag dad along to Huntsville to do chelation therapy once a month. She had serious heart issues and was given a year to live if she didn’t get it fixed. Well she didn’t make it a year. She never told dad and he as pretty upset we didn’t tell him.

YouTube is full of that information I know a guy his girlfriend had all sorts of digestive issues and was a little overweight. He got her to go full on carnivore with a chest day once a week. She lost the weight and seems to have fixed her ills. Dr Ken Berry, his last video I watched he’s gone full on carnivore. Said veggies spiked his blood sugars too much. I’ve quit watching his feeds. I have no idea what really works except Mediterranean seems to be what’s best for me. I’m trying to go that direction. Type 2 and heart issues doesn’t leave many options.

A stress test is not 100% accurate.
Coronary calcium score, stress test are all a good tool to start with but the only way to for sure k ow is a heart cath.
Only accurate rifles are interesting.

I known 2 people that passed the test, one died the next day from a heart attack. The other had quadruple bypass surgery a few weeks later. I flunked mine and had 95-98% blockage in widow maker. Hellifiknow except keep going to the docs and hope it all works out.

Thanks for the advice guys!
I talked to the patient this morning. I asked him if he had any prior symptoms that would indicate he had heart issues. He said no. I didn't know until he told me that he runs every evening after work. He said he averages an 8 minute mile and his highest total of miles this summer when the days was longer was 68 miles in 5 consecutive days.

Fur, I had what felt like heart tremors (not sure what else to call it) in my chest. My family doctor sent me to HSV. Cardiovascular Clinic. They had my do the nuclear stress test since I was still recovering from my knee surgery. Good news for me was the nuke test results were all good for my heart. Best they could tell me was I likely had muscle spasms in my chest muscles. Those folks were really good at HCC though. I was impressed with them. One cool thing that happened was I ran into Dr. Warren Strickland in the hallway there, and we talked deer hunting for at least five minutes.

Ecocardiogram is also pretty good - they rub probe around on your chest and a picture of your heart will come up on a screen - will show how it works or is working. Drs could tell I had problem just by listening to my heart with stethoscope
Starting to see a cardiologist by 35 is good idea - Lord blessed me by letting me have a reason to go to dr or I would never had sense enough to go and my time would hav come a long time ago. Now a heart dr listens to my heart 1/year and I get an eco about every 3 years - i hav a pig valve n my heart

I had the heart scan done at Emory two years ago. They felt very confident . My doctor felt it would show everything that a cath would at my age. I was 40 at the time and my score was a 0. Not sure if anyone else has had this done

Shot several 3D tournaments with him years ago. I rotated with a cardiologist in his building and talked with him a couple times. Super cool dude to some little Med student at the time. Talked turkey hunting and he showed me pictures on his phone of his trophy room and all. I would love to drink a beer with him and he’s a a fantastic cardiologist as well.

I have sat in his trophy room many times. I have held Fred Bears hat given to Warren by Fred’s Widow many times. Warren is the real deal. Seen him hit a life saver candy at 50 yards before. He is the best archer I have ever seen. Warren at one time was the most sponsored hunter in the industry and yet needed no support. There will never be another like Warren. The real deal!!

Lockjaw, man you have some serious trust issues and I mean that in the nicest way possible. We are honestly here to help you. You are correct meds have side effects. That doesn’t mean YOU will have them. If you are having health problems and refuse to at least try medication I pray you are making serious lifestyle changes. Also, find a new healthcare provider. One you can trust If you know one in the bham area, I'd like a referral.
