No disrespect intended, but I am not interested in a doc who manages numbers. Doctoring now is prescribing meds. That's all they do. It takes less time and let's them run their cattle thru faster.
They spend more time looking at the computer than doctoring.
Cholesterol numbers were lowered in 2013. Statins have side effects. Muscle pain, neurological issues, digestive issues, feeling tired. Guess what BP meds do, make you tired too.
I already have pain from a wreck, I don't want more, I want less. It's exhausting. Then add meds that .ake me more tired, no thanks. I have neurological issues too. Don't need to compound that. You'd think a doctor would know that they have my chart.
I honestly believe they get docked if my numbers aren't where corporate health cares deems they need to be. I thought it was pretty nice of BigBore to come on here and take the time to give us his professional opinion as a trusted ALDeer member. I personally am listening to him. This is half joking/half serious - you seem to have a lot of run-ins/conflicts with folks. (At least by the stories you post). You didn’t ask me my opinion, but dang give folks the benefit of the doubt at times

I'm 2 years in with coronary artery disease. I currently have 3 stents and another 100 percent blockage that there hoping will bypass on its own. Got AFIB also and on meds for that. It's a constant struggle and I'm the 1st in my family to have heart issues of any kind. The doctors are entertaining the idea of maybe I was born with heart issues undetected in 1974. It really hurt my feelings when they gave me a 10 year life expectancy. My wife and I have adopted the idea that something was gonna kill us anyway. I agree with the above written, go to your cardiologist!
Love a good hunting story, love my family and friends. Some people you can't, but acted like do.

Big Bore, I wasn’t feeling myself about 3 years ago. Went to the Primary Doc and it turned out my cholesterol was 370. He said it was the highest he had seen for a 24 year old. Been on Atorvastatin ever since. I’m currently on 80mg and was checked about a year ago at age 26. High cholesterol runs in the family plus I probably don’t eat great. Cholesterol was down to 220. Do you think I’m good to go down to 40mg or should I stay on 80? Is it normal to you for someone in their 20s to have this high of cholesterol. My checkup is in a few weeks but curious what you think as my doc is a bit of a lib and believes the Covid vax will fix everything… That is rare but at least you know. Now that you know, you can act on it. Agressively treating hyperlypodemia ( high cholesterol) is one of the best ways to control heart disease. Primary care docs do a good job. However, I would see a cardiologist and let them manage your situation. For sure. They are on the cutting edge of the meds for your condition too.

I’m 37….My cholesterol was “kinda high” (don’t remember the specific number but it wasn’t excessive…just “kinda”. My doctor put me on 5mg crestor daily which I took for about 18 mo. While it worked and my numbers were “perfect”, it made me feel awful. It was subtle at first and I didn’t notice it for a while but eventually I noticed it. Achy joints, got tired easily but most concerning it affected me mentally. Noticeably more forgetful and often felt “foggy”. To the point others noticed it. Did a lot of research (not just people on Facebook but actual medical journals) and found all were relatively common symptoms. Talked to my doctor about my concerns and said I felt like maybe medicine was a little premature and asked what she thought about trying diet and exercise first. She felt that was reasonable so I came off it in mid-Sept. Within a week or 2 I felt noticeably better. All of the suspected side effects disappeared pretty much immediately. Since then I’ve cut back on red meat to about once/week, cut out “junk food”, significantly limited sugar and fried food, and started walking/jogging a couple miles 3-4 times/week. I’ve dropped 15 pounds and feel better than I’ve felt in a long time I have a checkup in 2 weeks and I’m praying to God my diet and a little bit of exercise will have made an impact because I don’t know what I’ll do if I have to go back on cholesterol meds. Homer. You hope your tests come back positively for you. Don’t be surprised if they don’t. Like I said. Excercise is great but might not change a thing. Body pains with statins can be a problem. I experienced the same thing when I got on a statin. Ask your doctor about Livalo. It is a statin that has less side effects. I have been on it for about 10 years. Cardiologist know these things better than most primary care docs. Good luck and let me know if I can help.

Oh we just swept it under the carpet as we were being called racists to distract us from what they were doing. Now it is in full effect. I must tell you my friend, all medications have side effects. You just have to work with your doctor to find the statin and blood pressure meds that work for you! It is tiring, frustrating and a pain in the ass. But now that we have let the dems socialize medicine, we are all going to have to work harder to get good care. Most doctors are overworked and makes no less money for doing more work and they are starting to care a little less whether they realize it or not! Hang in there brother. Your family and friends need you!

I’m 41. Been having SVT’s for 13 years roughly and my cardiologist says my heart is in great shape (no blockage, no irregular beats, nothing. I think it’s anxiety. Either way I just know one of these times my heart gets up to 200bpm and holds there that’s going to be it. It’s frustrating to have all these tests ran just to be told that they don’t know what’s going on and good luck. Free State. If you have my number still, give me a call. If you are seeing a a Cardiologist where we met that day, you need to go somewhere else! Either north or south if you know what I mean. I can set you up with someone. Good chance you need to see an electrophysiologist which is a special type of Cardiologist. Let me know.

Carter being type 2 you need to ask your doc about jardiance Yea I’m past that. I’m on synjardy and trulicity. Gonna ask about going back to trujardy. My numbers were better then than now. I wore Libre 2 for a month to figure out my spikes.

Yes. 100% blockages can create a bypass. Those lesions are called CTO’s or chronic total occlusions. However they can be opened by an interventional Cardiologists that has been trained to do so. Feel free to PM me and maybe I can help. If you have reoccurring angina from this lesion that isn’t a great way to live. I honestly don’t know exactly how they could give you a 10 year life expectancy!?!

I'm currently seeing a cardiologist in Fort Payne, but he referred me to a specialist in Huntsville at the Heart Center. I dont offhand remember his name. He thought I may have been born with it? I dont know what's going on, other than I'm tired of it. It's an every day thing, that me and my wife struggle with, I want to go back to normal but don't know if I will. I'm not pity partying. So please dont jump on that bus, I have played my cards, and I will live with them.

That is Dr Al-Halaseh in Fort Payne. He is a good man and a reasonable physician that knows the limitations of his hospital. Huntsville has bar far some of the best Cardiologist in the state. Dr Michael Butler is the medical director and a very close friend. He does the CTO procedure I spoke of earlier. PM me the name of who you saw and we can discuss.

You just have to know the best ones. UAB has an excellent CV surgery program. For interventional cardiologist there are excellent ones at Grandview, St Vincent’s, St Vincent’s East, and the Tenet Hospitals (Princeton, Brookwood, and Shelby.)

Cholesterol is a myth that is used to scar people into taking statins There is no such thing as bad cholesterol period !! The reason LDL get a bad reputation is because it oxidizes easier than HDL and that what causes plaque buildup in the arteries LDL is oxidized by free radicals that cause inflammation The number one culprit that causes the release of free radicals that inflame the body is processed foods and refined sugar At the time of my heart attack my cholesterol was as near perfect as you can get and it still is My blockage was caused by stress and inflammation both of which release free radicals that oxidize LDL Want to know more about this then read Metabolic Cardiology by Stephen Sinatra

I tell my patients all the time if you ain’t feeling right just go get checked out! We had a guy that had a heart attack, sat on it cause he was “touching it out” for over a week and when he came to us in the ER, his heart was trash. EF of 10-15 and flash pulmonary edema due to the massive MI he had. We admitted and then transferred him to a large heart center.
My dad had his first heart attack at 32…I’m 30. Both grandparents and uncle all had MIs. I went to my doc and got blood work where my cholesterol was sky high. I’m 185lb, work out and eat semi decent. I told my doc my history and said Coy give me a statin and an aspirin even cause I ain’t foolin around. 😂 Mine is 100% hereditary.
I’ll add a couple: if your wife or a woman has weird complaints of nausea/vomiting when she doesn’t get sick, get it checked out….women display heart attacks wayyyy differently than men.
I’ll second big bore…take your dang medicine. Lockjaw, get a new doctor. I tell my mother in law that all the time. I wouldn’t trust one either who pushes the shot on you yet denies the side effects. There are a lot of great ones out there though to not keep up to date.

I stopped on this post to reply. Stay on 80 mg. Get on zetia. If your triglycerides are high get on vascepa. Now to finish reading. Is vascepa really that much better than a good fish oil? Vascepa is fish oil. A very high grade fish oil. I take Nordic Natural Ultimate omega. It helps my arthritis and keeps my triglycerides down. It’s the highest grade fish oil you can find short of a prescription.

I asked earlier but haven't seen an answer.
For you medical professionals, if someone wants to get checked out, what's the best test to ask for?
Nuclear stress test? Something else?
