One of the reasons we don’t have any age structure is because we have the philosophy that any buck that reaches 4 or 5 years old needs to die……We say that these need to die because they’re culls and these need to die because they’re trophies and the end result is that they ALL die and there’s very little true age structure…….6,7,8 year old bucks are different creatures and create different dynamics when present
The place I hunt has a good many 7-8 year old bucks. Most of them die from
old age. Here’s one from this year. He never had more than 125” of antler
and he’s headed downhill. He will probably make it one
more year and will have 2 inch tines next year.
They don’t all grow big racks when they get older.
A few do.
