One of our guys at the shop had a heart attack yesterday. THIRTY NINE YEARS OLD. He’s alive, only by the Grace of God. He didn’t want us to call and ambulance. “I’ll be okay” he kept saying. We finally called 911 regardless of his wishes. The EMT’s wanted to fly him to Huntsville hospital but he refused the flight. They took him by ambulance. The EMT’s said his EKG was showing “the tombstone” signature. That’s caused by your coronary artery being 100% plugged. He’s lucky to be alive and will be having QUINTUPLE bypass surgery next week. He’s healthy, doesn’t smoke, and thin.
So, guys don’t be hard headed, none of us are invincible. Make that appointment. You owe it to your family

Great post. Hope your guy does well with the surgery and comes through everything with flying colors. Also why it is important to get a complete physical and blood work done every year, especially once you get into your 40s.

you've got that right. DO NOT dismiss really bad heartburn even if there is no left arm pain. i had EIGHT bad "heartburn" episodes that i walked off before finally going to the doc; surely, i am blessed to have made to a quadruple bypass and replacement of my mitral valve with a bovine one; five years since the surgery now. hallelujah!
oh, yeah: cardio issues with my dad, and maternal grandfather: both skinny, active men; lean and active for me, too.

When I had my heart attack the same cardiologist was treating a man that presented with a toothache bad enough to send him to the ER on Friday night. Bloodwork showed it was a heart attack. Don't take chances.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

It runs on my father’s side of the family and was finally what got him. I had a full work up about 4 years ago. I just knew I would have it as well, but everything came back clean.

Good post Fur. I am 64 never had any signs of heart issues. Also have a physical once a year required by work. I had a Heart Attack 10 days ago , it had been bothering me about a week with what I thought was indigestion. When left arm started bothering me I knew it was time to go. Found out I has 95 percent blockage in one artery everything else was great considering. Sent me directly to Cath Lab and put in Stint to open up. If in any doubt please go get checked out. I went home after 3 days and be back to hunting and work next week. Ya'll be safe!

My aortic aneurysm scan is next Wednesday. I was supposed to go last Friday morning, but death was a better option than getting out in -2 degree weather.

I had my first heart attack at 32 and a re-stenosis of that stent 3 months later. 3 stents placed last fall 9 years after my first problem. I am and was in pretty good shape. They had to do CPR on me and jump start me in the cath lab. I say all this to say, take care of yourself you're never too young. My daughter was 3 when this first started and I laid in ICU wondering if I would ever hold her again. They do not allow children in the cardiac ICU so the only time I could even see her was when the door opened just right and i caught a glimpse through about a 6 inch opening to the waiting room. Death doesn't scare me, I know where my eternity will be spent. It scares the hell out of me thinking about leaving my children without a father at a young age. Sorry for all of the rambling. I don't post much but this thread really hit home.

And there are plenty of heart electrical problems that have nothing to do with a heart attack, and will kill you just as quickly. Don't discount irregular beats, "greying out", rapid beats, shortness of breath etc either.

Totally agree with the others I'm four yrs post quadruple bypass. Totally out of the blue, hereditary cholesterol was the culprit. Said I had Heart attack but dont know when. Better safe than sorry get checked!!

I know at Baptist in Montgomery they run a special for a heart scan for 99 bucks. I had a little blockage in my widow maker. It’s probably time to get rechecked

Guys. If you ever have questions about any of this. Please feel free to PM me. I am the tip of the sword for this stuff and have helped several members on here. The great thing about Cardiovascular disease is if you take action, 99% of the time, we can do something about it! If you don’t, you probably will have an untimely death.
It is Stent, not stint. -5 for spelling.
A stint is how long someone stays in prison.
Also it is not a shunt. A shunt is a pathway. Still a medical term but not used in this situation.
Hunting brings out the worst in people.

My problem is I don't trust my doctor. That distrust has been made dramatically worse by the whole COVID debacle and her insistence that I need to be vaxed for every freaking ailment under the sun that now 56 year old man may ever face. No thanks.
My doc wants me to see a cardiologist becauae I won't take a statin
. Hear me out . You take a med that can damage your liver to save your heart. Seems like 6 and 1/2 dozen to me. She thinks I need bp meds because when they walk me all the way back to my room, and immediately take my BP, it's outside the normal range. Let me sit for 5 minutes and boom, I'm good. I'm cholesterol is still under the 200 is bad number, it's hitting the magic total good and bad at 150 that is not happening. I'm not fat. I'm not diabetic. Now I see big pharma pimping out some new drug to take on top of a statin to help lower cholesterol. Wonder how long til they lower the number again making that drug required too?
How about instead of writing me a script for multiple meds, you come up with a way to treat me without meds?
