They must have been looking for a reason or suspected something. Companies reserve the right to monitor use of company assets (that's in the fine print when you log onto your laptop, or use any other company owned asset). I'm not sure who's job it is to watch videos of people, but if they are staffing full-time roles for that, they are wasting money. If the guy is that dumb you shouldn't need to work this hard for evidence to fire him. There was a guy that used to eat lunch at a place next door to a strip club every day and took long lunches....you guessed it.

This is why I use my company phone for email and work related messaging, and that's it. I had a college professor tell us in grad school the number one rule is to always assume the cameras are on, even when you have your own office.

Work needs to know the value I bring to the business, and that is where it stops unless I decide otherwise.


Maybe it was triggered by him being out in his company vehicle at 1:30am?
