I'm gonna try to keep this short but it's a cool story! This year is the first time I've got to hunt much for the last 4 years and yesterday morning I got a shot on a spike and I took it! I hit him a little bit back but there was good liver blood on the arrow so I came out and let him sit. I thought I'd killed the deer but I knew he might be hard to track so I went and got Gus my Lab that I got from Brent 4 years ago. Gus has never tracked any thing other than a biscuit on the kitchen counter but I was going to try him. Well I get back down there and tie him up so I can look for blood and can't fine but a spec or two. I spend the next 2 hours circling, following deer trails etc but I can't find chit. So I untie Gus and walk him on the leash to where I shot and go from there. He doesn't know whats going on and I realize that so it was basically a last ditch effort but I wanted to see what he'd do. Well he starts following my scent on all the trails I had walked and after an hour of this I was giving up so I took him back to where I shot and turned him loose. Well he immdietally went down to the only blood I had found and cut back and burried his nose. He had found blood I had missed so we started griding again but nothing. Another hour goes by he's just basically running all over picking up stick and acting like a retard so I'm ready to give up. I start walking back towards the truck and he's just running around down in the bottom below me. Well about 30 yds below where I had stopped looking he all of a sudden buries his nose and starts going back and forth hard. I was done at this point cussing myself cussing broadheads and cussing the dog, but I had to go see what he found. I get down there and I find one little spot of blood. He runs on up ahead of me and I start looking for more. I don't go 20 yds and I look up and Gus is about 40 yds ahead starring back at me with the dang deer laying dead in the ditch next to him. He's got this look on his face that I swear said "Is this what we're looking for?" It was probably the coolest expierence I have had hunting I had given up and I just couldn't believe it. This one is all Gus's!
