2 Rage 2 blade broadheads. I finally bought into all of the hype and bought a pack of them. I wouldnt throw away my Muzzy's just yet and kept them in my quiver. So yesterday I knock one up in my treestand and then at 515 a big doe walks out broad side. 25yds, no problem. Draw back, she quarters away just a touch, release, arrows hits perfect in the boiler room but doesnt punch through. I see the deer run off with about 8 inches of the vane side sticking out.

I think, no problem. Hit her with the RAGE, gaping entrance wound. Give it about 30 minutes, wait for my friend and start looking.

Guess what I found?

NOTHING! At all. No trace of blood, spent an hour last night and an hour this morning looking.

Moral of the story: If it aint broke dont fix it!

I keep hearing all about the impressive entry, but a tunnel is just a hole if it ain't open on the other end.

If you got pass throughs with the Muzzy 100 grain...then you should get pass throughs with the Rage 100 grain; with everything else in the set up being the same. KE will be the same. Perhaps the extra width of the open blades on the Rage caught front shoulder on that quartering away shot? While surface area does create resistance, I would think the 3 blade muzzy would have the greater surface area and thus increased drag. Perhaps you had a malfunction on the blade deployment which is something I have always been concerned with about the Rage and I always double checked that o ring retainer after knocking the arrow. I also shoot an Axis, heavy, small diameter,arrow out of my switchback @ 68 lbs. Lots of KE. I'm 5 for 5 on Rage pass throughs. With one spine shot from top to bottom that was slightly delayed on the pass through as the ground impeded arrow travel and the doe fell on the arrow breaking it in two.

I know that a 3 blade 100 grain muzzy will pass through a hogs skull. I'm sold on the fixed blade. Would like to know if anyone has exp with the g5 fixed broadheads

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I rebuilt a muzzy that killed a deer last night for about $3.

After discovering one of my muzzy broadheads was warped I screwed on a Rage 2 I bought a few years back just in case. I ended up having to use that damn thing on a doe at about 25 yards. The arrow did pass through but both holes were nothing like I've seen posted. Looked way smaller than a muzzy hole. I'm pretty sure the blades didn't fully deploy. We did find the deer but only a few drops of blood between her and where the shot took place. I would rather shoot a Rage than a field tip, but that's about all.

I think you are mistaken about your point of impact on your shot myself.

You state that the doe was 'almost broadside' and you 'put it through the boiler room'.

BUT, then you say there was only 8" of arrow sticking out as she ran off????? Just how big was this doe??????

I'm thinking, quartering-away, high gut shot. Very little chance of a bloodtrail with ANY broadhead.

Great broadheads don't make up for bad shots!

Hate to hear that...I been shooting rage for 3 years and no problems.
I believe there are gonna be positive and negative responses to every broadhead. My point....It is a PERSONAL opinion.
Dont give up on Rage yet....try one more time and then make decision - Rome wasn't built in a day bud.

I've got Muzzy's that have killed 3, 4 or 5 deer each.
The 4 Muzzy's, loaded in my quiver right now, each have multiple kills to their credit.
There are no degrees of dead.
Dead is dead, regardless of the "impressive entry".

Nope I said "broadside", then she quartered away just a touch. I've made bad shots before and knew it as soon as it left. This shot landed good. Remember the arrow was still in the deer as it ran off.

You made a bad shot, don't blame the BH, a field point will kill a deer if you make a good heart/lung shot. If a deer is hit in the lungs it will die. Hold your breath and see how far you can run. If you did make a good heart/lung the deer is dead.

Your right. A good shot is a good shot. Even a field point will kill one. But when it comes to penetration you cant sit here and tell me that a rage will punch thru when a muzzy wont. Its the other way around. Its just the crappy part about bow hunting.
