It's very rare for a company to offer one now. Now Unions... That's a different story.

Personally, I'm factoring into my retirement plan the expectation that Social Security will get cut at least as much as 25% in the next 10 to 15 years.



Here's my take, can't speak for all unions but been a member (38yrs) of UPIU, PACE and now USW. Only USW offered a pension that you could contribute to, how USW managed or mismanaged it I don't know. We have a company funded pension, so we never participated hopefully, it stays solvent.

FYI, UPIU- papermakers union merged other unions evolving into PACE, then PACE merged with USW in mid/late part of 2000
