Did you know you were paying for one? I don't know what my pension benefits look like, but I know I'm paying for one. Oh wait that pension we are paying for..... we don't actually collect any benefits or money. We simply pay for someone else in another state to collect benefits. I gotta a 401k but since the stock markets going in the toilet nobody bailing my retirement out!!! Biden Pension BailoutAs my Dad used to say..."MAKES ME SO MAD, I CANT SEE STRAIGHT."

Any collective retirement fund is a scam. It works out great for the ones who cash out early, but there will eventually be a bunch of people who get screwed.

Nope. Mine was not a scam except it did not pay past your spouse. So I cashed out and reinvested. The original payed $67/yr of service/ month. So $67x28= $1876 per month plus anything else you had invested (ie 401k, 503-b, any Roth’s). Besides jakethesnake what would you know about retirement? From some of your post you can’t be anywhere close to retirement age.

Nope. Mine was not a scam except it did not pay past your spouse. So I cashed out and reinvested. The original payed $67/yr of service/ month. From some of your post you can’t be anywhere close to retirement age. My previous employer had a pension. They took it away from us.

I think our company quite offering one in 2017 or 2018.
It's very rare for a company to offer one now. Now Unions... That's a different story.
Personally I'm factoring into my retirement plan the expectation that Social Security will get cut at least as much as 25% in the next 10 to 15 years.

Mine is down like everyone else’s. When interest rates are up, pension plans are down. I was thinking of retiring this year early, but since my birthday is this month I have to go by the 2023 numbers according to our plan. Only can retire on the first of the month

Here's my take, can't speak for all unions but been a member (38yrs) of UPIU, PACE and now USW. Only USW offered a pension that you could contribute to, how USW managed or mismanaged it I don't know. We have a company funded pension, so we never participated hopefully, it stays solvent. FYI, UPIU- papermakers union merged other unions evolving into PACE, then PACE merged with USW in mid/late part of 2000

When I was 20 years old I sat in the HR office being told what benefits I would receive. I will never forget what the HR director told me. He said “The best benefit we offer is RSA”. I remember thinking, Im 20 years old, Ill never retire, that means nothing to me. Fast forward 40 years, Man am I blessed! I retired with a full retirement that my wife will receive if I die before her. As young buck that would have never planned for the future, I didnt realized how truly blessed I was. I look back at my life and realize how the lord blessed me when I wasnt smart enough to realize I was getting blessed… Job, Wife,Kids—-all a true gift from the Lord!

I should have gone to work for the Federal Government.
My brother in law works for the Dept. of State and has mandatory retirement at age 55, and a full Federal pension for the rest of his life with COL increases.

The Florida retirement system does well for me. I get a 2.75% cola raise every July and a monthly
Supplement for my BCBS insurance that thankfully my former agency allowed me to keep. In 2011 they changed the rules on retirement for the high risk in the FRS. Thankfully I fell under the old rules. When I die my wife will get my pension with no penalty. I am fortunate that I was able to achieve my retirement goals.

40 years at UPS, pension a good thing and I think I earned every penny that I get...the bail out that slow Joe signed was for the trucking companies that have been out of business for 30 to 40 years and UPS is the only company that contributes to that fund! UPS has been paying for years to retirees that companies has been out of business for years that have not made contributions to the fund in 30 to 40 years.
