I hunt a stand on a black dirt Indian Mound. There are Native American burials all over it. Several odd things have gone on there, but I still hunt it. The Spirits aren't mad at me.

I would hunt it and never think a thing about it. When I pass away, I would consider it an honor to have someone place a stand over my final resting place and hunt deer from it!

Looks like it’s dead quite there. So yes.

I've hunted next to many an old graveyard.

There was an old African American graveyard (in Bullock County - most if not all of the concrete headstones were homemade) that I would hunt next to periodically. There were absolutely no roads that were close and the one old dirt/clay road that was close (probably 300+ yards off the beaten path) was always a mess to get down. Periodically, when I would go there - there'd be new floral arrangements or the "stick" plastic flowers on some of the graves.

I never saw anyone going to the gravesite, but I always appreciated that someone would visit a loved one in remembrance. If the arrangement or "stick" flowers had been knocked or blown over from wind or branches - I would always stand it back up. I suspect that it was the their family members that lived at the end of the dirt/clay road where it teed into the paved highway, but never asked.

I will look for a picture that I have of a homemade headstone that I found in the woods while blood trailing a buck that my son had shot. It was a pretty cool find.

We found one in Old Texas in Monroe County and the headstone dated back a 100 years ago. There was two graves where the kids had died at a really young age. Was hard living back then. We cleaned up the grave yard but I don’t think that any family members visit it.

Got someone buried right on the path to one of my stands. It’s not a mound, just a small multi-cultural site, but there are one for sure and maybe more ancient burials. Did some research and turns out some cultures basically dug a pit right where they lived and buried them sorta sitting upright. At least says the internet and that was how this guy was. Figure they were hunting the same place 500-1000 years ago. My friend who found him freaked out when he realized what it was an actually did a little sorry to have disturbed you ceremony. Must have worked because he hasn’t bothered me walking out in the dark.

Nope. And I don’t watch scary movies either. That stuff creeps me out.

I think of it a little differently. More so out of respect.

I would not hunt that stand if it was over a grave or in the cemetery.
Besides the cemetery, yes.

Building a "permanent" stand in the cemetery, and hunting it, no.
Placing a climbing stand on a large tree that has grown in the cemetery and hunting it, yes.

My first shoulder mount buck was killed right behind a cemetery in Elmore county. A few years ago I was heading back to the truck after turkey hunting in lowndes county. I stopped one last time to call right next to a cemetery. As I was about to make my call I caught some movement. I watched a nice little 6 point walk right through the grave yard. Even stopped a time or two to nibble on some grass on the graves.

If the area holds deer, hell yeah....

There is a small cemetery near Gainesville with graves of men who died at Shiloh. Makes you realize how many died and how far they traveled to be buried.

Yes I would hunt near a grave.

Was hunting the stand that backs up to the cemetery on my place once and looked over my shoulder and noticed a jar with a red top sitting on one of the graves. It had not been there before. When I got down I walked in to the cemetery and got the jar. Opened it up and there was a note in there with a guys name and phone number. He was from St. Louis and had been doing genealogical research on his family and had traced his family members to that cemetery. I called and and told him that even though I owned the land that those were not my people. Got him in touch with someone from the family. Graves were from 1820s - 1850’s. Barbour County.

I walk through a little cemetery going in to a spot I hunt. Four headstones mark where a man, his wife and two little girls are buried. The man was born in 1751 and died in 1817. He outlived the rest of the family.

I can only imagine how hard life was in those woods back then.

I keep the dead tree limbs and debris off of the graves so they leave me alone when I walk through in the dark.
