HOAs are for the Karen’s of real estate. They are for folks that can’t afford to own enough land to put between them and their neighbors. Never will I ever!
Very few people can own enough land to put between them and their neighbors in suburbs where most of the HOA's are. Depends where one wants to live. Each to their own.
