Greetings everyone. I was finally able to get an Aldeer account and look forward to joining the community. I am retiring from the Air Force and we decided on Huntsville as the landing spot. I thoroughly enjoy the woods, with archery being my preferred method for whitetail. I would love to link up with some Upper Alabama natives that are like minded. I have full access to Redstone Arsenal, but have a lot of figuring to do when it comes to hunting that property. I believe I missed the lottery deadlines for the Special Opportunity Areas, but plan to get setup with that next season.

I am always up for grabbing the bow and shooting. Good luck to everyone out this year and stay safe.

Welcome. Since bow hunting is your thing, check out Wheeler Wildlife Refuge. Plenty of deer out there.

I appreciate the insight. Looking at the map now. Definitely some challenging terrain, but I am not opposed to using the kayak to "sneak" into typically inaccessible areas. I assume I can just park at my own risk off the side of any of the roads in the southwest corner of the refuge.

And thank you to everyone for appreciation of my service.

I mostly hunt the refuge because it’s free and close. I think claims or his son were actually the first to point me there.

Yes most roads you can park, some gates are locked and you can park outside them if you don’t block them. From my experience, even if it looks hard to get to, someone is hunting it. Let people push the deer to you.

You have to download their map and permit and keep it in you signed while hunting

Yall need to quit lying to the new guy. There's no deer out on Wheeler, they hate the swamp. If I was you, I wouldn't even bother scouting out there.
