Got a nephew needing one. 500ish range without scope. He already has a scope.

You should be able to get a Savage Axis, new, along with a box or 2 of ammo for that price. Probably shoots better than 98% of people are capable of taking advantage of..

Reynolds in Opelika has several Savage Axis in that caliber( at least they did month ago when I was in there). Would meet your budget.

I have a Mossberg Patrol in .308. It's the desert tan model. Uses M1A magazines. I have a scope on it, and I have installed a rear peep sight. Brand new. Savage Axis with accu trigger and do not look back. Got one in 308 and have a Tikka in 30~06 . Love em both

Savage Axis with accu trigger and do not look back. Got one in 308 and have a Tikka in 30~06 . Love em both He has a savage axis in 7-08 but cant get decent groupings. Even has timney trigger
