Looking at scopes and I think I've narrowed it down to these three. Rifle is a 16.5" 308 Win, lightweight mountain gun. Ranges will be less than 150 yards in the mountains. Brightness and clarity are at the top of my list, especially in the last first and last 30 minutes.
Meopta Optika6 1-6x24 illuminated
Leupold VX5HD 1-5x24 illuminated w/ cds
Trijicon Accupoint 1-6x24 illuminated
Hawke Frontier 30 1-6x24 illuminated

Trijicon accupoint has been a standard for light gathering along time
I'd go meopta optika after that

Might also want to consider SIG, making quality, budget priced scopes. My 2 cents.

For the budget you're looking at (at least with the VX5) id consider a Vortex Razor HD LHT 3-9-42. A LOT of scope for 1299.

I have 2 trijicon accupoints. I wouldn't hesitate on getting another. Also have used meopta,zeiss,nightforce,leupold,vortex and others. No fleas on a trijicon

I just got in a Meopta optika5 3-15x44 a few days ago. It’s a fantastic scope for the money. The quality of that scope is on par with my higher end Meopta scopes. I will probably buy a few more for some of my other rifles.

I'm becoming more of a fan of a meopta everyday and I have a bunch of scopes from Burris to Swarovski and for the I don't think you can do a lot better than meopta

look up Arken optics / scopes there out of Texas.... for the money they cant be beat . I have one and it's very nice... although I am a loyal leupold owner and have been a long time..

look up Arken optics / scopes there out of Texas.... for the money they cant be beat . I have one and it's very nice... although I am a loyal leupold owner and have been a long time.. 36oz Hubble scopes with tactical reticles are great for range and bench shooting but wouldn’t be very practical for an ultralight mountain rifle build like the OP is putting together.

Hats off to you for not wanting to mount a high powered Hubble on a 150 yards woods rifle. All of those are quality optics with great clarity . I'd add choose the one on your short list with the best woods hunting reticle. Reticle is the most overlooked factor in scope buying, folks get all caught up in "light gathering." That 56 mm , Swaro won't do you much good if can't find the reticle at dark in the woods.

I don't know about the VX5 duplex , but the old VX-Rs duplex was a little heavier than standard but not a true heavy. Just right , then there's the lighted dot for really low light. Deer killing reticle if there ever was one. I just took a vari-x III 2.5-8 with heavy duplex off my 308, am gonna be mounting a VX-R 2-7 with Duplex and lighted dot. Looking forward to the help the dot offers my old, worn out eyes.

This was on my original short list but it is not available with the fire dot reticle. I've really come to like the fire dot in my VX5 2-10x42.
