I've got a Great Plain drill and several no-till planters.
Drilling food plot seed is easy with the Great Plains. The stand is nothing to write home about.. "Easy" is about the only "Pro" I can see in that deal. You will get a better stand just light disking.
Throw and mow vs. Drilling...... Better stand with Throw N Mow method IMO.
I no longer use mine on my plots I don't feel like it gives me what I am looking for. I like a plot that looks like your lawn.... thick and green to maximize the food per acre.
On a drill you will spend $10k plus for one that works maybe twice that (20k).... and for what? You can throw Wheat seed out on concrete and it will sprout. If you are having trouble with your plots maybe you are doing something wrong like planting too early in a drought, for example if you have already planted this year.
When we do a winter cover crop we just broadcast with the spreader truck and walk away. This is not that hard.
If you want a drill for planting summer plots that changes the above. That IS where they are useful IMO.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

How well do these drills work on hill sides? They will drill anywhere you want. No problem with the seed moving to one side of the box?

They shine for summer plots. THE only downside like others have stated, is in the winter you have perfect little rows, with much deer pressure at all your rows will not crown out and fill in. What I do in the winter is, drill all but the wheat or rye and broadcast that out. It fills in the rows and the field looks better IMO. Its an extra step but not that hard.
