So I shot a Hoyt last year and I sold it..... I want to try Mathews but I am not even remotely a fan of the Z7. I think the cheapest Hoyt is smoother. But anyway, I have shot a switchback and it is as smooth if not smoother than my Hoyt maxxis 31 so I'm in the market in the next couple weeks for one but really can't spend over $300 for one.

Yeah.... I dunno why but I just never thought the Z7 was Mathews smoothest bow by any means Me either. I know we all have differing ideas on what suits us best, and we are all different. That is why they make red, green, blue, etc cars. I have a Switchback and I don't see many of them for sale for 300 bucks. I have saw a couple on ebay for that price, but they have been "road hard and put up wet". I wish you well on your search. Hope this helps.

Yeah I can possibly do $350 but that's about all I can do I didn't mean to imply that mine was for sale. Sorry about that. I am not wanting to get rid of mine. Good luck on your search.

Check ebay it's your best bet for that money. Switchbacks are still real popular and hold their value well.

You should look into the older solo cam bowtechs. Shot one Saturday at 70lbs and it felt like 60. Smokin fast too

I like Matthews a lot. But everyone that I know that has bow hunted for a long time. I think their last amazing bow was the switchback. And I think Hoyt is carrying the torch right now. I just can't afford the vector right now ha. So hence I want to try Matthews and shoot the switchback for a year and who knows maybe they will come out with something better next year

Mathews is in a rut right now. High dollars are being spent on the "endorsement guys" making the bow unaffordable for the average hunter. Wait a minute; This is basically what all of the manufacturers are doing-RIGHT! When the companies start reducing the weight of a bow, and heavily marketing this "new" concept, the bow is not being upgraded or changed much.
I personally can't see justifiying over a thousand dollars for a naked bow! The cost is just not there in my opinion. It is basically a stick and a string in the end. Once you rig out the bow, you are looking at another 500 to a thousand dollars. This cost is alot more than my lease I am currently in. There is a great used bow market now with thousands of bows for sale that have never been used. Shop ebay frequently and the right one will come up for you.

Mathews is in the midst of making some changes in regard to future bow designs.
They're not spending high dollars on "endorsement guys" and the "endorsement guys" are not what is making bows cost upwards of a thousand bucks.
Consumers buy these bows every year no matter what the cost, and that along with annual increases in materials and production is what causes the price to increase.

To each their own. I've owned probably 6 or 7 different models of Mathews hunting bows since 2000. I've liked them all with the exception of the LX and Outback. I didn't care to much for that cam system. My absolute favorite would be the Q2. Mainly because of sentimental reasons. It was the first Mathews I ever owned, I've killed a slew of deer with one and I started shooting competitively with one. To me the original Z7 is right there with it. I've test fired the Heli-M, and from what I can tell so far, it's as good as the Z7. The Switchback ranks very high on the list as well. As for the beyond short bows such as the Switchback XT, DXT and Z7 Xtreme, they felt nice and shot well. I never felt as comfortable with bows that short. The string angle is just too steep at full draw.
From late 2004 through 2006 I shot Hoyt. I owned the Xtec, Vtec, Trykon and Trykon XL. I shot them very well, but to me they weren't as "smooth" as Mathews. The best shooting and feeling cam system available right now to me is the binary system found on the Bowtechs. I tend to judge more on how the cam system feels at full draw and during the shot. The Bowtech cam system has a rock solid back wall at full draw and the bow is dead in your hand during the shot. Plus, they're smoking fast.
As for prices, Clem nailed it. As long as the market is bringing those prices, they will keep going up.

doecommander, I do have some insights based on recent conversations with someone closely connected with Mathews.
As for the prices, it's no different than $10 spinnerbaits or $250 fishing reels or $950 bows or $68,000 Skeeter boats. If they're put out in the market and consumers buy them, they'll stay at those prices. If they don't sell then they won't stick around. Thank goodness for a variety of price points.

LOL I had every intention of buying the heli m until I shot it then shot the vector... IMO the vector makes the heli m look like a childs bow. Vector is as SMOOOOOTH as a womans butt... dead in the hand and will not fall out of your hand after the shot.

I have never laid eyes on a bow I would pay a thousand dollars for. That is one of the reasons I paid everything off I owed before turning 30 years old. I have been debt free for over 20 years and can tell you I didn't get that way blowing money on things that looked good because Joe Blow was endorsing it. When you lose sense of somethings value, you are not going to make it. I buy everything I can used. I just don't have an image problem what so ever. It don't have to have the latest or the best to make me happy. Them new bows add up to house payments boys, if you aren't careful!
