I almost didn't hunt Saturday afternoon and really wanted to stay at the camp and watch football, but since I've been working every other weekend, I figured I'd better get my lazy butt out in the woods! I was hunting on the edge of our old pasture (which was planted in pines 4 years ago) with a food plot to my left and an acre of standing corn to my right. I had a doe and a fawn come out into the food plot about 30 minutes before dark. I stayed locked onto them, and kind of got "tunnel vision", focusing on them so much. I looked out into the pasture and saw a spike and another buck easing up the road toward me (from the opposite direction of the other 2 deer in the field). The bucks got about 50 yards from me and began sparring. They didn't make much noise, but it was enough to get the other 2 deer's attention and they also began moving toward me. It was getting pretty dark at this point, so I still couldn't tell a whole lot about the second buck, but knew he was a 2 year old deer (based on his size compared to the spike) with a tall, narrow rack. The 2 bucks kept coming down the road (which comes within 15 yards of the stand), just like they were on a string. The spike turned before he got to me, but the other buck came on down the road. He got to 15 yards and I couldn't take it anymore! I drew on him and gave him a 2-blade Rage at 15 yards. He ran back up the road about 50 yards and then stopped. He stood there for 10-15 seconds and began walking; I was looking at him through the binoculars and could see blood on his side as he walked. I finally lost sight of him, but figured he wouldn't be far. I waited until it was pitch black dark, climbed down and had to see what I could find at the site of the shot. My arrow was drove up about a foot into the ground and was COVERED with blood. I tracked him about 20 yards up the road and stopped there to give him some time to expire. I went back to the camp and gave him an hour before we picked up the trail. We tracked him on down the road and didn't have to go very far. He was piled up right there where I'd lost sight of him from my stand, but was still alive. So, I had to give him another arrow. 7 point - 125 lbs. He's not much, but he's my best Alabama bowkill and I'm proud of him!   I think this is him from a few weeks ago, but it's hard to tell:
