I am by no means a pro bow hunter but I am not a big fan of mechanicals. I know they work but to me it's just one more thing that can go wrong. I guess it's about just minimizing the variables. I use Thunderheads and shot my first 2 deer with them this year. I am more than happy. I have a friend who shot them for years and swears by them, now I do too. Mechanical or stationary I would say it comes down to the shot. A good shot is a good shot and a bad shot is a bad shot. Primitive hunters used sharpened rocks so I'm sure a razor sharp stationary will be just fine.
