This is my second deer shot with a mechanical, and it may be my last. I lost a deer a few years ago with a rage and said I will never shoot another mechanical. This doe was shot at 25 yards with a G5 tekan , she ran for about 6 seconds and I hear her crash. At this point I am pleased with the broadhead. My arrow was burried in the ground about 6" deep and 1 of the blades was missing. I look around and don't see any blood on the ground, so I walked about 20 yards were she entered the woods and I found a drop. The blood trail consisted of a few drops every 5 yards til I found the deer 50 yards from where I shot her. It was a double lung, and her nose/mouth area was covered in blood. This was the exit side. I am not bashing a product, I like G5 products and will continue to use them. I just wanted to share my experience with this head.

I don't understand. You heard the deer crash and you obviously walked straight to her. Bloodtrails are not going to be the same every time. A lot of times it takes them 20 yards to start bleeding good. From what I can see in the picture, the exit wound APPEARS to be kind of high. Anyway, glad you found her. I'm not bashing you either. That's why it is imperiative (sp) that you watch them run for as long as possible and mentally mark the last object they ran past and listen for the crash. Congrats!

Yea she jumped the string and I hit her higher than I wanted, I alwys aim close to the white line. She never bled good, thers more blood in that picture than I found on the ground. It was the worst blood traIl I have ever seen, and I have walked a lot of 'em.

I tried the Tekan, and wasn't impressed. I shot one deer, and haven't had one on an arrow since. There are some really awesome mechanicals, and some really horrible ones. Unfortunately, the bad ones give all the goods ones a bad rap. And unfortunately, the only sure way to figure out which are good and which are bad is through actual experience. But in the Tekans defense, it did the job for you.

Yes you want some constancy when using a broadhead.Yes he found the deer and walked to it.Lets say he did not hear it crashed thats why a bloodtrail is needed.High exit wound lets say the deer was 30 yards away he aimed in the middle of the deer right behind the shoulder the arrow will have very lil angle so the exit will be a lil lower than the entrance. So to me it looks fine.

I am by no means a pro bow hunter but I am not a big fan of mechanicals. I know they work but to me it's just one more thing that can go wrong. I guess it's about just minimizing the variables. I use Thunderheads and shot my first 2 deer with them this year. I am more than happy. I have a friend who shot them for years and swears by them, now I do too. Mechanical or stationary I would say it comes down to the shot. A good shot is a good shot and a bad shot is a bad shot. Primitive hunters used sharpened rocks so I'm sure a razor sharp stationary will be just fine.

So let me ask everyone a question. I have lost two deer with fixed blade broadheads, one a 100 grain Thunderhead and one a 100 grain Muzzy. Does that mean that all fixed blade broadheads are bad?

People are somehow forgetting that the reason the big shift to mechanicals came about because of losing deer with little or no bloodtrails to fixed blade broadheads.

The entry hole was nice 1.5" hole and was still lower than midways up. The steel blade broke off in the deer, that's a problem when ribs break blades. I like the idea of the larger diameter the mech heads offer, but I guess I'll keep waiting one dependable enough to hunt with.

Might want to check that. Maybe has more to do with higher speed bows and less margin of error for correct bow tuning for arrow flight. I shoot fixed blades and have never had a problem with them when the bow was tuned correctly. I don't see a need in spending $10 - $13 dollars per head on glitz and glamour advertising and packaging. Kind of like the pretty paint jobs on fishing lures only catch the fisherman.

I get blood trails on impact on 99% of kills, but there is one every now and then that takes a few yards to get started. Maybe 20 yards was a stretch. I aim low, at the white hair line, on all my deer that are over 20 yards because I want a low exit wound. Obviously you haven't shot many deer with a bow or you have more experience and not make such an idiotic statement. Maybe you should stick to fowl hunting, WIDGEON.

At what point in the animals death did the head fail? Blood trails? I shot a doe at 18 yards tight behind her shoulder once with a 4 blade Muzzy. Arrow exited low as well. From where my arrow was stuck in the dirt to where she lay 70 yards away I could not find one drop of blood. Those 4 blade fixed heads, man you just can't trust them. Please change your name obviously your not.Never had a bloodtrail start 20 yards later First I can assure you that my friend BOHNTR is as good a bow hunter as I know. And second if you have never had a deer run even 20 yards before they started trailing blood then you must have killed about 2 in your lifetime. I'd go as far as to say it's pretty "common" for there to be no or very little blood until enough accumulates in the chest to start blowing out the holes and or nose. A bow shot deer can cover 20 yards in 2 seconds or less. That's not a lot of time for blood to start flowing.

Well lookie here. Seems you're not an expert trailer or marksman one? If you aimed in the middle of the body and got a high exit wound I'm sure you don't find a lot of deer.

Thanks been bowhunting for 23 years and 17 of them have been bowhunting only..I have killed 46 deer with a bow..And lost 4 deer with a bow..One being this year..It happens part of hunting..So I have a good avg.
