I'm not a fan of heights at all! However, I use a Summit Goliath climber with HSS Treewalker safety vest. I'm strapped to the tree the whole time I'm climbing up and down the tree. I feel VERY safe in this setup.
Whatever you decide to climb in, just make sure you wearing a good harness and stay attached to the tree the whole way up and down. With ladder stands and lock on stands use a life line. Being safe means feeling safe. Good luck!
