After Geno's dire prediction I prayed this morning like I always do. Before I headed out I looked out off of my hotel balcony and was blessed by God with a beautiful scene. I took it as a good omen seeing the curvy roads I would be riding and the inclement weather ahead...



I didn't stop to take a lot of pictures today. It was raining constantly, sometimes pretty hard. However, we persevere. I did stop and put rain gear on and then stop again to take some of it off here on the river bridge.

The Wasioto, as it was called by the native Shawnee, drains about 18,000 square miles of Kentucky and Tennessee. It begins in the Appalachian mountains and flows 687 miles into the Ohio River near the confluence of the Ohio and the mighty Mississippi. One fork begins in the infamous Harlan County.
It was discovered by the white man sometime in the 1700's and renamed the Cumberland.






The cliffs you see on the left are limestone. Limestone filtered water is part of what makes Kentucky Bourbon so tasty and renowned throughout the world.




The railroad bridge in the foreground is another Warren Truss design similar to the highway bridge across the Tennessee river in my other post.





I did run over a dad racoon at about 70 mph, so maybe Geno was right.

How are your hind parts holding up to that long ride? I dont think i could handle it

Other than my Tiger 1050 this has been the most comfortable stock bike I have ever owned.

I'll tell you guys something, the road from Stevenson, AL. to Sewanee, TN. Is a beautiful and fun curvy road. I think it was 117.

Without the 3/5ths compromise, States like Alabama and Tennessee might not have seceded from the union. There were a lot of folks that wanted to put it to a popular vote, but the wealthy land owners would have nothing of that and instead it was the delegates that voted. Well the delegates were allocated based on population and the slaves were counted as 3/5ths of a person, so in fact they indirectly voted for their own secession from the union.

Irish, I know a fella that used to live in Selma that is a big rider and he is currently riding a trail that starts in Fayetteville TN that is all backroads. He is currently in Oklahoma but headed back east due to weather concerns. He calls it that TAT or Trans America Trail. Since I’m moving to Fayetteville in the future his posts about it caught my attention.

That's on my bucket list, but I don't want to do it alone. I want to do it with a buddy for obvious safety reasons. It's just hard to find a buddy to take a month or so off from work that is still young enough/healthy enough to do it. But I hope it's going to happen before I get too old.

It's basically a mostly a collection of dirt trails connected by back roads that goes across the United States. Sort of like the Appalachian trail for adventure bikes. I've about decided to just keep the Royal Enfield Himalayan just for such type adventures. It's the perfect bike for that trip.

I would love to do the Dalton Highway to Deadhorse Alaska too. I had a buddy that did that trip on a Triumph Bonneville pulling a small trailer. Dennis was a hell of a character and a great rider too. We were on Push Mountain road in the Ozarks on our Bonnevilles and walked off and left a bunch of guys on sport bikes and sport touring bikes. We got to the end, took off our helmets and gloves, and we were leaning up against our bikes and Dennis was smoking a cigarette when all the other group finally showed up. That was a fun day.

US Hwy 64 basically goes from coast to coast. It's the South's route 66 just without the fame. Always thought it would be cool to do the whole thing.

Highway 78 "The Bankhead Highway" is one too.

i know that Sewanee/Stevenson road very well. i grew up in Cowan, TN, six miles down the other side of the mountain from Sewanee, and graduated from Sewanee Military Academy. your fine photo story stirred some deep memories ...

We avoided the rain for the most part yesterday, and did a lot of riding around Lawrenceburg and Frankfort, KY.

Started that day with friends and had a really big ass breakfast at Ramsey's Diner.




There is some money around Lexington and some very beautiful areas...

This is a castle built by a rich guy for his young wife. Before the castle was finished she ran off with the gardener. Heartbroken the old guy vowed never to finish it and never to sell it. For about 30 years it remined in disrepair and went through several hands until it was purchased in 2017, renovated and turned into an event center.




Just another beautiful home and grounds on a Kentucky backroad. Tobbacco, Bourbon and Horses must pay pretty damn good.




Wiesenberger Mill is still in operation.






The state capitol is under a little renovation. Frankfort is a surprisingly small town for a state capitol.




This ol' guy made his own motorcycle.




Legend has it, this guy was a true American badass.






His grave has a pretty good view of the Kentucky river and Frankfort below...

Looks like a great trip so far.
