I really want to start Bow hunting but I can not get in comfortable in a tree stand, or at least in my climber. I am not so much scared of heights but I do respect them, which is odd considering that my job requires me to jump out of airplaines.Do any of you have any suggestions. I have no problem with ladder stands or anything else when I am gun hunting. The reason I use a climber is because I have to hunt public land 90% of the time unless I just happen to be at home and can hunt my private land in cullman. All help will be appreicated.

What kind of climber do you use?I have tried alot of them and by far the summit line is the "one" for me followed by a summit  far more comfortable and sturdy than any of the other's I own..

It is made by Gorilla. I got it as a christmas gift a couple of years ago. I thought this may be part of the problem I just cant convience my wife that I need a new one.

If you don't feel comfortable - then don't use it. I am a firm believer that nervousness can create an accident. Some folks just don't like climbers, regardless of brand. Millions upon millions of deer have been killed hunting from the ground. If a climber is not for you - get a good quality ground blind.
Personally, I prefer Summit - but, I also have TreeLounge and a couple of others that I hunt out of. If you know someone that has another brand - you might ask to borrow it and give it a try. Practice with the stand at lesser heights till you begin to feel more comfortable that the stand will not let you down.

Maybe it's your seat. I couldn't get comfortable in those summit,lone wolf style padded seats. I have the ole man style mesh on all of my climbers now. That is backwards than most, but I can sit twice as long now.

I use a API Grand Slam Shooting Star, my first climber was homeade and is 12 years old and is build like my api stand, I trust the chains more than that cable, plus the seat is comfortible and you can hunt from dusk till dawn with no problem. But go look at different stands at Bass pro or cabelas and make your choise cheap aint always better, hunt safe.

I have thought about a blind but wasn't sure if I could get one in bow range, since I would only consider 30 yards or less with my bow I know their are bows that are capable of farther shots but I don't shoot beyond my skill level.

All we have here is Gander Mountain. I will bring my own hanger.

Try climbing a tree that has a lot of cover around it. You'll feel a lot more secure than if you were setting out in the open, not to mention you'll be better hid from deer. I started noticing this a few years ago. Try it a I think you'll see a noticable difference.

I have noticed that if I have limbs between me and the ground that I will climb twice as high as I would if there were no limbs. I guess its got something to do with not being able to see the ground or something I don't know.

I have noticed that about ladder stands that I have hunted come to think of it.

We have some Summit fans here and I could not agree more!!! GREAT climber stands!!!! Safe, sturdy.
If you've never climbed much with them or any "quality" climber made by a TMA (I think that's the association quality hunting stands belong to) member and practice at home at low heights. Also, you'll need to work on setting the length of the cable to the correct length based on the diameter of the tree where you'll be hunting. The stand may be pointing up a little or maybe even a lot when you first start up the tree, but you'll need to practice judging where to set your cable at the ground floor.
ALWAYS wear a safety belt and keep your phone with you.
