I had a bout with it once. The bed sheet was unbearable. I stuck my foot out from under the sheet and the wind from the ceiling fan was even causing pain. Had the wife get it and turn it off.

My trigger food.... Pinto beans.

Go see a rheumatologist and get it figured out before it gets worse. I battled it for years before I got hooked up with my rheumatologist. After a bunch of blood work and a Dr. that knows what he's talking about, I now take Allopurinol daily and haven't had a flare up in almost 5 years. I was in my mid 20s and in damn good shape when it started, so age isn't a factor. Most folks seem to have a trigger, too much red meat, too much beer, too much pork or in Fur's case, beans. It never seemed to matter what I ate or didn't eat, I could lay off the red meat for a month and still have a flare up. My rheumatologist said my body just naturally produces too much uric acid and the Allopurinol suppresses it. He has really been a life saver. I hope you get some relief and get it figured out so that you don't have to deal with it going forward.

Get on allopurinol and drink a big glass of water when you wake up each morning. (This is only if your gout keeps coming back)

My last attack was six or seven years ago. Left big toe and left knee. I was on crutches. My doctor had put me on Colcrys and warned me about the bowel movement. She said to always be within 30 seconds of a bathroom. On my third or fourth day I was in the driveway talking to neighbors when the first rumble hit my gut. Witnesses later testified they never seen a person move so fast while on crutches. I barely made it. Stuff hit me like the colon prep they give you before a colonoscopy. After the Colcrys treatment I now take allopurinol once a day. It was shellfish and tuna fish that gave me gout attacks.

Anesthesia can also trigger it. The only times I've had it have been right after a surgical procedure, and I always got over it in a few days.

Colchicine and a steroid. I have been dealing with it since I was 24. Never found a home remedy that worked. Peanuts and sugar drinks will flare me up every time. Dangest thing.

If no one mentioned it, Methlapredizone is the only thing that will knock mine out when it flares up

Am not a doc...But if you have never heard of DMSO-stands for dimethyl sulfoxide, check it out. I keep it in my home & its both weird & amazing at what it can do for pain. You can order it at dmsostore.com. Study it for yourself & decide if its for you. If you use it-be sure the area its applied to is free of any thing except the dmso. It will rapidly absorb with it anything else in that area. I hope you get to feeling better.

1. All you need are steroids.
2. Indomethacin is nothing more than a NSAID
3. Foods like shellfish, deli meats and alcohol are high in purine which can trigger an attack. You have gout long enough you will know your triggers.
4. I would only recommend allopurinol if you have multiple attacks in a year
5. Do not stop your allopurinol when you have an attack. You can trigger another one once you get back on it.
6. Lots of water
7. Soaking your affected joint in hot water, hot as you can stand, will help break up the crystals
8. Did I mention steroids

Not sure why no one has mentioned venison or organ meats but 2 days after eating venison it will start to flare. Mine seems to come on gradually so at first sign i take allipurinol which knocks it out. Don't want to get to that place where I need one of those weekly pill organizers before I have to so I only take it when it flares.

I have a freezer full of venison and am not about to stop eating it, ... unless the allipurinol stops working.

I guess I'm lucky. Venison is just about all that we eat, and I don't have any issues.

Menu this year has been fallow, axis, whitetail, and wildebeest.
