I've never understood striking for such a long period of time - there is no way the workers can recoup their lost wages, regardless of the concessions made by the company.

Alot of folks around here have worked those mines in Brookwood and oak Grove.
See signs saying laid off mine worker in folks yards often or striking meant

I used to see a bunch of the “on strike” signs as a result of this strike. Not so much anymore. I know several that have taken theirs down. Not sure if they have finally moved on to other jobs or what.

Yeah, and half of the guys on strike went back to work as non union. Probably the best and brightest of the bunch too.

The mines aren’t having any trouble getting coal moved out. Put your boat in at Holt and ride up river a few miles. Check out all of the barges lined up getting loaded.
Union leadership is really good at pissing on your leg and telling you it’s raining.

Unions suck and strikes suck too. If you want more pay go ask the boss and tell him what you need to work there. If he agrees to your self valuation he will say okay. If he does not think your self valuation is right he will say no and then you can go somewhere that agrees with your valuation.

He’s in computers and stuff which means he also sees the production rates and stuff. He tells me the mines actually have been producing more coal without the union workers than with. I worked for a mining equipment company in those mines for 8 years. I don’t doubt what he says a bit.

Labor unions will never have a hold on employment again, so it’s a mute point. All of the corporations and private equity are partnered together now with a shared goal to lower wages. Unions succeeded because the employees were a threat to the employer at the time unions were common. If all the employees struck it could affect the earnings and net worth of the executives and equity owners of companies. Now, it really doesn’t to much of a degree , because the people above the mid tier don’t necessarily need any additional private wealth. Employees now can be threatened with having their job outsourced, having their job eliminated, or having a plant moved to another country. Those threats from employers didn’t exist in our nations past. These corporations and private equity work together to set wages, so these people are wasting their time striking over pay. It’s called illegal immigration. Those workers are driving the rates down. Unions are leaches. Just look at them trying to organize at Amazon. Amazon drove rates up for everyone in the area for warehouse folks.

257 are you part of the NFU (National Farmers Union)? Mexicans can farm cheaper than you. All it would take is some conglomerate to purchase the land and take over to put you out of business. It would look like the 70’s - 80’s with all of the farms being auctioned off and the families being bankrupt... but wait that’s what it appears or some say xiden is doing to the housing. Put people out of work and take their houses. If everyone stands up to the government then they become a Union fighting for a cause.
All of you people are eager to throw stones at unions but everyone is part of a Union of some sort. Weather it’s a business, marital, or religious union. All unions work towards a better, cohesive, productive and profitable partnership for all involved. That’s what a union is. Give and take. Both sides know what is allowed to give up and to ask for. Liberal education has taught against unions and negotiations for at least 50yrs and look where it has gotten this once great nation. Big business and big government rules. If anyone says they are not a part of a union they are complete liars and hypocrites. Everyone is part of some sort of a union. FAMILY. I think unions served a purpose at one time. Now, not so much in a world filled with more lawyers than ever and liberal juries awarding money like candy.
