One of my saw tooth's had some leaves missing. At first I I thought it was deer. But upon closer inspection. It's little brown worms about a half inch long. They're all piled up together. What are they and what should I use to rid them. Don't wanna damage the tree, because it's bout the only one I was able to grow out of about of 10 I planted.

Need pics. Just take a bottle of permethrin and spray them. Won’t hurt the tree. Or sprinkle Sevin on them.

Need pics. Just take a bottle of permethrin and spray them. Won’t hurt the tree. Or sprinkle Sevin on them. I went to take pics. And I guess what I seen was the babies. But the whole tree is covered in bigger caterpillar looking worms. They have black and white stripes running the length of them with orange suction feet and they're fuzzy. I got some pics of them but I don't know how to post them. The stripe runs from head to tail.

My source of info at the time just called them Oak tree caterpillars. I'm not sure if thats a common name or just a description but I have fought them before and won. They will also attack Chestnuts. I used just a random Wal-mart garden pest liquid spray in my pump sprayer. About an hour after spraying the ground was half covered in fuzzy worm death. Tree was fine and put out new leaves quickly. Some of them fuzzy caterpillars will mess you up. I would avoid contact with them dudes.

Almost all of my oaks have a few right now. Happens most years about this time.

They’ve hit mine too. A little spray goes a long way. And I have done nothing to them and the trees are ok.

They typically don’t harm the tree, just a little foliar damage.

I always get them on my saw tooths each year that I have planted in my yard. I researched them years ago and can't recall the name. All I do is typically break off the small branch they might be on and squash them, lol! the ones higher up don't really do much damage and the leaves come back pretty quickly. I do remember that sometimes a larger infestation can really eat up a large portion of the leaves but typically the trees come back. Thankfully I haven't had it bad.

oak leaf caterpillar. they’re everywhere right now. they usually just hit the bottom limbs. you can spray the bark and prevents them from making it to the leaves this time of year. i get 100+ calls a year bc everyone thinks they’re armyworms
Give me bout 15 more minutes, I was dreamin about beavers..........

Those are not oak leaf caterpillars according to everything I’ve looked at. They’re a yellow neck as evidenced by the yellow neck. Lol. Pretty fitting name. Oak leaf c’s are different color and lack the long hairs.
