Hopefully the Hoover store is next. It's a damned eyesore to me. Still in business while other good mom and pops have shut down around it. It's not worth my time to look it up, but isn't Field and Stream also owned by Dicks?

EastChase in East Montgomery is dying a slow death. When you go out there it’s easy to see why. Costco, Academy sports and Dillards is the only big anchor stores left. The hood rats have already taken over the fairly new Walk on’s.

Dicks will not exist in 5 years but not before the upper management all cash out their stock and become instant millionaires. Good riddance.

Hoover’s Field and Stream’s parking lot looks empty every time I go by.

Yeah damn shame, cause the one down here had a better gun and hunting related inventory than Bass Pro. Then the CEO done what he done and folks stopped going, and it's went to pot 🙃

I used to go to the one in Daphne, AL. They had a good selection of hunting items and I purchased some tree stands from them, young man that worked in that dept was a military kid and did a great job. Went in a couple of years ago to buy a stand they had advertised in their sales flyer, no one around, asked this group of "associates" who were just standing around if they had one of them or maybe order it for me. Young man looks at me and says is that something you use for hunting, I say yes, then no we don't sales things like that and they all have a little giggle. So I told them you just keep standing there acting stupid I will go purchase it somewhere else. On the way out stopped at the manager on duty told her, keep hiring dumbasses see how that works out for you, never stepped in one since and looks like now will not be an issue, good riddance to them

I can't believe how fraking stupid some if these company's are. Appease a small percentage of the population and lose the majority of your clientele, simply brilliant.

I've never been a fan of Dicks ..... just a high priced sports store. The one here in Mobile opened their child Field and Stream. I've been a customer of F&S but I don't walk thru the store to get to Dicks... having said that, I talked to the gun counter associate of F&S and asked him about Dicks not selling guns anymore back when they first announced it. He said that was Dicks decision and had no bearing on F&S and that F&S will keep on keeping on selling guns and ammo , hunting and fishing gear and other outdoor products.

Sure it did... Dicks was getting out gun selling (notice i didn't say gun business) in the DICK's stores anyways hence the reason for the F&S stores, also F&S doesn't SELL Ar15s or Ar10s anymore (because of Dick's CEO's decision) and you also have to be 21 to purchase a long gun in F&S... Majority of them gun counter guys don't know their azzholes from their elbows....

I was pissed when the Academy closed at Lee Branch and a Dicks went in. I don't shop there. I have about gotten where I don't like going to Academy either. Their selection stinks. And Bass Pro needs better lighting. I can't see in their store.

I don't understand how the DSG in Tuscaloosa stays open. I'm forced to go there occasionally to buy baseball-related stuff that I can't find anywhere else in town, but there are rarely more than 10-12 cars in the parking lot and that includes (presumably) employees.

Academy is going to be in trouble soon too, though, if they don't figure out their supply chain issues. They almost never have whatever I'm looking for in stock, even if their website says they do (the inaccuracy of the website is almost becoming a joke among the employees...they just shake their head when you point out the site saying something is IN STOCK when it's not). Of course, any time you question it, the answer you get is "because COVID......", and they want you to order it online from them instead.

But I got news for them...if I gotta order something online, I'll just order it from Amazon and have it 2 days later. The ONLY way any of these retail stores can compete with Amazon is the ability to handle/try on something in person before you buy it, and have it same-day. If they can't provide that, then they have no way to compete.
