Taking the wife to Red Rocks Park in Colorado for a concert. Planning to stay 5 days in Denver or somewhere close to there.
What are some must-do things to do? I've never been further west than the Mississippi River, so I would like to see some sights.
Take your kids hunting instead of hunting your kids.
I'd rather be LOST in the woods than FOUND in the city.
Drive a hybrid, I need your gas.
Your mind is your primary weapon. Never let it get rusty.

If y'all are going this month I'd guess there will be some really colorful parades .
Seriously,
Pikes Peak is fairly close. It's a shame they closed the Cog Train from Manitou Springs up to the summit. The cog train ride was one of the coolest things my family ever did. When we went up on Pikes Peak , it was mid July and it was 32 degrees and there was still a little snow on the ground.
Take a drive to Buena Vista and ride down 24 and 285, Goes down the valley below Mt. Elbert and Mt. Harvard . Looking up at those make you feel real small.

go NW of Denver and spend a day r 3 in Rocky Mtn Natl park , stay at Estes Park, take some warm clothes, make a loop SW to Grand Lake then back W to Denver. Take a ultralite spinner and catch some trout in the park and at Grand Lake. should see lots of elk and mulies and maybe some bighorn sheep in the park. do some hikes on the great trails in the park. jealous

All the stuff I enjoyed in Colorado wasn’t in Denver. Colorado Springs was cool, Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak and Rocky Mountain Natl Park all solid things to check out close to there. If you can make a little drive Great Sand Dunes National Park is absolutely awesome. There were a couple good dive bars in the city of Denver but that was about it. Be prepared to see a ton of homeless in Denver. Literally everywhere there.

If you head South, you can see some of the things they've all mentioned. You could also stop in at Manitou and check out the sites. Garden of the Gods is nice to see and free if I recall correctly. Cave of the winds, Seven Falls, and a bit further South you can check out the Royal Gorge. Of course depending on the time of year you'll be visiting, those will be pretty warm. Rocky Mountain National Park is awesome and they've got that hotel where the Shining was made. Wife won't let me and the boys go inside. Staying near Denver you'll find plenty of really great food destinations and things like the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, the zoo and the botanical gardens are also cool.
If it were me, I'd do the loop sort of like timberman mentioned, but I'd try to maybe finish it off by swinging down South and hitting some of the places I mentioned before flying back.

West through the tunnel is a must as is pikes peak. Honestly I could just drive around up there for days. Cheyenne has some history to the North and the most antelope I’ve ever seen. I would like to do the drive from Denver to SLC. Ive done half of it from SLC.

Was in Estes park first of May, I’d recommend it to anyone. Rocky mtn National park 👍

Glad they are running the Cog Train again. If I'm ever out there again , I'll ride it again.

Estes Park is a good place to stay 60ish miles north west of Denver, Rocky Mountain NP is right there. So many places to see within a couple hours drive 5 days won’t be enough time. Cheyenne,Wy. The Frontier Days Old West Museum.

Go to Golden and see the Coors factory. Go downtown and have a draft glass of Coors original.

SteamBoat Springs is a cool little town. Huge Mule deer right in town too.
