Lockjaw,
I am not sure if it has changed but use to in Alabama you were only required to provide the insurance company with one estimate, and therefore could choose who repaired your vehicle. If you brought them two they could elect the lower of the two. It was a big deal i Hamilton because one of the shops was using convicts on work release to do all repairs and the insurance companies would tell everyone atleast one of the estimates had to come from there which wasn’t true.
It may have changed how idk. What they do now is contract with big body shops. Not to name names Cough HENDRICK cough... They require you to go there and get an estimate, even though they can't legally tell you to use them. In that sort of case, who do you think the bodyshop is going to serve well? You, or the insurance company? It is one of the scams they run. And its getting worse. So I called in and said this estimate is incomplete, they didn't put down to replace some of the bumper covers that are damaged. Oh that's ok, they can do a supplemental estimate once they start the job. Do you want to schedule it? NOPE! It went down hill from there, and I even got so frustrated and said " I am under no obligation to save you money on the repair of my vehicle. It was fine until your client hit me". And they are still trying to low ball me on my injury. I have a torn disk, and now arthritis in my low back. I am going for my 3rd pain block this week. It's been almost 3 years of daily pain. I doubt it will ever improve. And of course he has the minimum coverage.
